A Russian journalist who broke the story regarding Chechnya\u2019s recent crackdown on gay<\/a> and bisexual<\/a> men<\/a> is in hiding following a number of death threats.<\/span><\/p>\n Earlier this month, it was reported that police in Chechnya had been <\/span>arresting gay and bisexual men<\/b><\/a>, at least three of whom had been killed.<\/span><\/p>\n On April 14th, Vladimir Putin\u2019s chief spokesman Dmitry Peskov <\/span>told reporters<\/b><\/a> that there is no credible information about the reported detentions, torture, and murders.<\/span><\/p>\n In an interview, Elena Milashina, a journalist with the Russian-language Novaya Gazeta newspaper, said she has vacated her home and now plans to leave Russia after Muslim clerics in Chechnya calling for \u201cretribution\u201d against her and other journalists.<\/span><\/p>\n Via <\/span>CNN<\/b><\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n The editorial board of Novaya Gazeta released a statement calling the sermon \u201can incitement to massacre journalists.\u201d Shortly afterwards, the newspaper received two envelopes filled with white powder.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe still don\u2019t know what the powder is. We have asked the security forces to check it,\u201d Milashina told CNN. \u201cBut all of us, including me, consider this situation is very serious.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n The Kremlin says it has no confirmation of any gay<\/a> men<\/a> in Chechnya suffering abuse.<\/span><\/p>\n But the reports have clearly struck a nerve.
