TOP TEXAS HOUSE DEM CALLS ON NFL AND NBA TO \u201cSTRONGLY OPPOSE\u201d ANTI-TRANS BILLS: <\/strong>Texas Rep. Chris Turner, chair of the House Democratic Caucus, sent letters to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver asking them to speak out against anti-transgender bills raised in the state legislature that would prevent people from using facilities consistent with their gender identity. Turner writes in one letter, \u201cLaudably, the NFL has taken a strong stance over the last several years in opposing similar discriminatory measures. In keeping with this stance, it seems natural you would also strongly oppose HB 2899.\u201d The measure would prevent local communities and schools from protecting their transgender populations and students. In this way, it is strikingly similar to SB 6, another heinous anti-LGBTQ bill being considered by Texas legislators. More from The Dallas Morning News<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n WHIP HOYER CALLS ON U.S. TO ACT ON REPORTS OF MURDERS OF GAY MEN IN CHECHNYA: <\/strong>Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) took to Twitter to call<\/a> on the United States to \u201cnot sit idly by\u201d while police in the Russian republic of Chechnya detain and murder gay<\/a> men<\/a>.\u00a0 The Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta<\/em> first confirmed the anti-gay<\/a> actions being taken by authorities in Chechnya, reporting that\u00a0 hundreds of gay<\/a> men<\/a> were being detained, and at least three killed, by Chechen police. HRC has called on President Trump and the U.S. State Department to help stop anti-LGBTQ atrocities in Russia. Though the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission found that her termination was a result of unlawful sex<\/a> discrimination under Title VII based on her gender identity, a federal court in Michigan later ruled that the funeral home was exempt from Title VII compliance under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).
