<\/a><\/p>\nIn the last few weeks, the prolific YouTube star prepped us for the 2017\u00a0Todrick Hall tour dropping\u00a04 amped up, \u201cDeluxe\u201d versions of songs from his \u201cStraight Outta Oz\u201d album and a new hit \u00a0\u201cLow\u201d, featuring RuPaul. \u00a0The\u00a050 city, three continent, summer tour of shows last night\u00a0in New York City.<\/p>\n
While obviously not the first to take and twist Wizard of Oz, for me it\u2019s as original\u00a0as any, using the familiar imagery to both tell his unique story and lean into the\u00a0shared, explicit and frequently glossed over issues in the the communities he\u2019s part of or allied with as a\u00a0black, gay<\/a> artist in a world where many would prefer he not be so\u2026<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n And though it\u2019s easy, don\u2019t forget he\u2019s doing it all. It\u2019s not your typical YouTube channel producer that can produce, write lyrics, sing, costume, design sets and shots, choreograph and the rest at\u00a0this level. The range of moment in the show include, of course Kansas and the Yellow Brick Road, \u00a0but also a high end Rodeo Drive-style boutique filled with things \u201cExpensive\u201d, and the sexy urban\u00a0street party\u00a0in \u201cLow\u201d with RuPaul whipping and whipping it all up \u2014 an homage, intentional or not,\u00a0to\u00a0Destiny\u2019s Child\u2019s \u201cLose my Breath\u201d himbo dance-off, itself an homage to \u00a0Janet\u2019s Rhythm Nation. The lion twerks. Ru sings and howls with an emphasis on the \u201cbears\u201d, all with a Brittney Circus vibe mixed in.<\/p>\n Ru teases:<\/p>\n \u201cNever seen a tinman on Tinder Wrong Bitch channels\u00a0Black Lives Matter, with Bob the Drag Queen facing off with Todrick against the cops with \u201cwater in their guns\u201d ,<\/p>\n \u201cCause I bite my tongue for no wizard We could go into Hall\u2019s resume of more than 10 years on YouTube, 2.5 million+ subscribers, making it to the semi-finals on American Idol; getting that love note video<\/a> from Beyonce on Youtube after dropping Cinderonce; and then an invitation to choreograph the video<\/a> for Blow; his turn as Lola in Kinky Boots on Broadway; or his smart, rapid-fire homages to the great current divas of pop; and how after more than a decade of working his butt<\/a> off producing amazing videos<\/a> Bieber\u2019s manager\u00a0Scooter Braun took him on and is clearing the way.<\/p>\n \u201cExpensive\u201d features Todrick with Dragrace stars\u00a0Kim Chi, Willam, Alaska, Mariah & Laganja.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n But with all this talent, this new polished version of Oz, and that kind of management all this is destined for footnotes, and you should just enjoy the show.\u2026and then buy the album on ITunes<\/a> (which in the past few weeks charted in the top 10 Pop album chart and the release of \u201cLow\u201d got tantalizingly close to the top.)\u2026and then check the tour\u00a0tickets <\/a>because this show performed live<\/a> is almost certainly coming to a town near you\u2026<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n In \u201cPapi\u201d Nicole Scherzinger isn\u2019t sure if she\u2019s Todrick\u2019s \u201cbody type\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n There\u2019s a lot more to the show\u2026and it\u2019s all here in the Deluxe Edition of the entire show coming in at an hour and 11 minutes of entertainment.
