A powerful new video<\/a> that premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Festival highlights the stories, struggles, and resilience of the LGBTQ community in Jamaica. Logo\u2019s Global Ally<\/a> campaign partnered with the groundbreaking photography project, \u201cWhere Love Is Illegal<\/a>\u201d to create \u201cThis Is Who I Am: Stories of LGBTQ Survival from Jamaica,\u201d a video<\/a> which looks into the lives of a group of young LGBTQ people living in Kingston, Jamaica.<\/p>\n

“Jamaica is the ninth country I\u2019ve visited. Hopefully people who view this work will be moved to take action and become allies,” said Robin Hammond, creator of “Where Love Is Illegal” and \u201cThis Is Who I Am.” “If they do, there is a chance that the stories of LGBTQ Jamaicans can have a wider impact.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Is Who I Am: Stories of LGBTQ Survival from Jamaica\u201d is a part of Logo\u2019s Global Ally<\/a> campaign, a storytelling project that elevates the personal stories of international LGBTQ people, and provides ways for allies to take action in support of the LGBTQ community around the world. It highlights the work of J-FLAG, the Jamaican LGBTQ organization, which helped to launch the first Jamaican Pride event<\/a> in 2015. Actress and advocate Ellen Page participated in that Pride event, and included it in her Viceland series, Gaycation<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The launch of \u201cThis Is Who I Am: Stories of LGBTQ Survival from Jamaica\u201d coincided with the launch of #IAmAnAlly<\/a>, a campaign co-created by \u201cWhere Love Is Illegal,\u201d a platform for sharing stories of discrimination and survival from the global LGBTQI+ community, and Jamaican LGBTQ activists. Uniting LGBTQ Jamaicans and their allies in Jamaica and around the world, the #IAmAnAlly campaign creates a safe space for all to connect and send messages of support.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
