Sean Spicer made the astonishing claim today that former Trump Campaign Manager Paul Manafort had a \u201climited role\u201d in the Trump campaign.<\/p>\n
Said Spicer while being grilled about the FBI investigation intro the Trump campaign\u2019s contacts with Russia:<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a point at which you\u00a0continue to search for something\u00a0that everybody has been briefed\u00a0has not seen or found. I think it is fine to look into\u00a0it but at the end of the day,\u00a0they\u2019re going to come to the\u00a0same conclusion everybody else\u00a0has had. I heard\u00a0some names floated around\u00a0before, that were hangers-on\u00a0around the campaign.\u00a0I think at some point, people\u00a0that got thrown around at the\u00a0beginning of this hearing, some\u00a0of those names, the greatest\u00a0amount of interaction they have\u00a0had was a cease and desist\u00a0letters sent to them.\u00a0The\u00a0greatest interaction they had\u00a0with the campaign was the\u00a0campaign sending them a series\u00a0of cease and desist letters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Spicer then characterized Manafort, who ran Trump\u2019s campaign for five full months, as one of those hangers-on:<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that when you read a lot of this activity about associates, there is a fine line between people who want to be part of something that they never had an official role and in people who actually played a role in the campaign or transition.\u00a0Obviously there has been some\u00a0discussion of Paul Manafort, who\u00a0played a very limited role for a\u00a0very limited amount of time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Manafort released a statement after today\u2019s hearing, saying, \u201cthe suggestion that I ever worked in concert with anyone to release hacked emails or sought to undermine the interests of the United States is false.\u201d<\/p>\n
