We appreciate your feedback and passion for making YouTube such an inclusive, diverse, and vibrant community.\u201d<\/p>\n On Thursday, vlogger Rowan Ellis posted a video<\/a> about the situation, spurring other YouTubers to speak up:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Tyler Oakley says at least one of his videos<\/a> is blocked because of this:<\/p>\n still not fixed. one of my recent videos<\/a> “8 Black LGBTQ+ Trailblazers Who Inspire Me” is blocked because of this. i’m perplexed, @YouTube<\/a>. t.co\/MrGBmPum1a<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Tyler Oakley (@tyleroakley) March 19, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/p>\n TechCrunch reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n In addition,\u00a0the hashtags #YouTubeIsOverParty and #YouTubeRestricted started trending on Twitter over the weekend, with other users reporting that their videos<\/a> about LGBT topics were hidden in Restricted Mode.<\/p>\n According to YouTube, Restricted Mode relies<\/a> on \u201ccommunity flagging, age-restrictions, and other signals to identify and filter out potentially inappropriate content.\u201d It is frequently used by parents, as well as schools, libraries and other institutions, to keep children from finding videos<\/a> with porn, graphic violence and other objectionable content.<\/p>\n Videos referencing same-sex<\/a> relationships, however, were also being hidden (including one of a lesbian couple\u2019s wedding ceremony<\/a>, notes Gizmodo). Ellis, who has about 22,600 subscribers and focuses on \u201cpop culture from a feminist and queer perspective,\u201d according to her YouTube bio, claimed\u00a0that about 40 of her videos<\/a> had been filtered out of Restricted Mode.<\/p>\n Even pop stars Tegan and Sara have been affected:<\/p>\n If you put @YouTube<\/a> on restricted mode a bunch of our music videos<\/a> disappear.
