The latest numbnuts to be up in arms about a \u201cgay<\/a> moment\u201d in Disney\u2019s\u00a0Beauty and the Beast<\/em>\u00a0are\u00a0Russia\u2019s anti-gay<\/a> lawmakers,\u00a0MP Vitaly Milonov, who authored the country\u2019s law banning \u201cgay<\/a> propaganda\u201d, and\u00a0Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky.<\/p>\n Earlier this week news broke that Disney\u2019s first-ever\u00a0\u201cexclusively gay moment\u201d was set to make history<\/a> in the upcoming live<\/a>-action film\u00a0and that it would come from Josh Gad\u2019s character LeFou.<\/p>\n The film is set to open in Russia on March 16.<\/p>\n The BBC reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n Vitaly Milonov, an MP of the governing United Russia party, urged the culture minister to hold a screening of the film before it is released to see if it complies with the law and to \u201ctake measures to totally ban\u201d it if he found \u201celements of propaganda of homosexuality\u201d.<\/p>\n His colleague Alexander Sholokhov said that if the scenes violated the law, the film should be banned from cinemas.<\/p>\n \u201cAs soon as we get a copy of the film with relevant paperwork for distribution, we will consider it according to the law,\u201d Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky said.<\/p>\n \u201cI will not take my kid to this movie,\u201d Russian actor Pavel Derevyanko told state-run TV Russia 24.<\/p>\n Yesterday, evangelical preacher Franklin Graham called for a Christian boycott<\/a> of the film in a Facebook post that has gone viral.<\/p>\n A theater in Alabama announced this week<\/a> that it was dropping Beauty and the Beast<\/em> from its screening schedule because, said its owner, \u201cIf I can\u2019t sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me then we have no business showing it.\u201d<\/p>\n And the AFA\u2019s subgroup One Million Moms also clutched its pearls and shrieked<\/a> at the thought of gay<\/a> people in movies, calling for Disney to stop depicting reality.<\/p>\n The post Russia May Ban \u2018Beauty and the Beast\u2019 for Violating \u2018Gay Propaganda\u2019 Law<\/a> appeared first on Towleroad<\/a>.<\/p>\n
