\"\"The 89th Annual Academy Awards are live<\/a> on ABC on Sunday night, the ceremony begins at 5:30pm PST\/8:30pm EST. GLAAD Media Award nominee\u00a0Moonlight<\/em> <\/a>is nominated in eight categories including Best Picture. Moonlight<\/a><\/em> picked up six Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, sweeping every category the film was nominated in<\/a>.\u00a0I Am Not Your Negro<\/em>, the documentary about and inspired by gay<\/a> novelist, playwright, and author James Baldwin, is nominated in Documentary Feature. The sci-fi film\u00a0Star Trek Beyond<\/em>\u00a0picked up a nomination in Makeup and Hairstyling. 89th Annual Academy Awards: Sunday, 5:30\/8:30 on ABC.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"On Monday, the ABC miniseries When We Rise<\/em> kicks off, and airs each night of the week except Tuesday. When We Rise<\/em>, from out writer\/director Dustin Lance Black, chronicles the history of the LGBTQ community from the 1970s up to modern times, and how the movement was shaped by and in turn shaped the lives of several\u00a0advocates fighting for change in San Francisco and across the country.\u00a0The eight-hour event series includes episodes directed by Black, executive producer Gus Van Sant, and Dee Rees. The series will air two hours per night beginning at 9pm. When We Rise<\/em>: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 9pm-11pm on ABC.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Thursday, ABC will air a special one-hour documentary, When We Rise: The People Behind the Story<\/em>, featuring\u00a0the actual advocates\u00a0who inspired the mini-series: Cleve Jones, Roma Guy, Ken Jones, Diane Jones and Cecilia Chung.
