<\/a><\/p>\nPresident Donald Trump\u2019s chief strategist Steve Bannon isn\u2019t the only former employee of Breitbart News\u00a0to find a new home in the White House.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Bannon brought on Sebastian Gorka, a deputy assistant to the president and author of \u201cDefeating Jihad: The Winnable War<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Gorka\u2019s refugee parents escaped from Communist Hungary in 1956. Now, he\u2019s making the case for President Trump\u2019s ban on refugees and immigration from seven majority-Muslim nations.<\/p>\n \u201cIt may be shocking to some people out there to have a president who actually wishes to stand by his promises, and who, for a year, has been talking about making these kind of changes, and when he does that you\u2019re surprised,\u201d Gorka says. \u201cPoliticians keeping their promises may be unusual to you, but in this White House that\u2019s how we like to operate.\u201d<\/p>\n Bannon helped turn the conservative Breitbart into a platform for far-right ideas and white supremacists. At the outlet, he worked closely with Gorka, a former national security editor and a Fox News contributor.<\/p>\n Gorka says journalists have deliberately misrepresented Trump\u2019s intentions, and that on occasion it provides comic relief at the White House.<\/p>\n \u201cI come in every day and with my colleagues we have a good old laugh because we open the newspapers, the ones that are supposed to be the leading authorities in America, and they write about issues where we were in the room the day before, and their reportage has absolutely no resemblance to what is actually happening inside the White House,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n Gorka says the White House is not in disarray\u00a0and denies its officials are sending mixed signals on policies including Washington\u2019s stance on Ukraine and Russia. But contradictions are apparent.<\/p>\n Last week, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley condemned and called for an immediate end to the Russian occupation of Crimea.<\/p>\n \u201cCrimea is a part of Ukraine. Our Crimea-related sanctions will remain in place until Russia returns control over the peninsula to Ukraine,\u201d Haley said.<\/p>\n But in mid-January, then President-elect Trump told The Times of London he\u2019d offer to end sanctions imposed on Russia over the annexation of Crimea in return for a nuclear arms reduction deal.<\/p>\n \u201cThey have sanctions on Russia \u2014 let\u2019s see if we can make some good deals with Russia,\u201d Trump was quoted as saying by The Times. \u201cFor one thing, I think nuclear weapons should be way down and reduced very substantially, that\u2019s part of it. But Russia\u2019s hurting very badly right now because of sanctions, but I think something can happen that a lot of people are gonna benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n In an August interview with ABC\u2019s George Stephanopoulos, President-elect Trump seemed unaware that Russian President Vladimir Putin had annexed Crimea.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s not going to go into Ukraine, all right?
