This just in:\u00a0Melania Trump has hired interior designer Tham Kannalikham to help redecorate\u00a0the White House living quarters.<\/p>\n

\u201cMrs. Trump has a deep appreciation for the historical aspects of the White House,\u201d Melania\u2019s senior advisor, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff,\u00a0said in a statement, \u201cand with Tham\u2019s traditional design and expertise, they are focusing on a seamless integration of elegance and comfort into where the President, the First Lady, and Barron will be spending their family time and calling their home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kannalikham, too, made a statement, \u201cI am honored by the opportunity to be working with the First Lady to make the White House feel like home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Given what their other home looks like, we\u2019re sure the First Lady won\u2019t skimp on using tax-payer dollars to line the walls with gold leaf, as well as\u00a0add lots of gilded, over-the-top furnishings, tacky drapery, and gaudy\u00a0chandeliers.<\/p>\n

And all for a house she doesn\u2019t actually plan on living in.<\/p>\n

Last week,\u00a0a source told\u00a0Us Weekly<\/em> that Melania was \u201creevaluating\u201d her initial plans to move into the White House in June, after Barron finished up the school year, and was instead considering staying in New York indefinitely, at a reported taxpayer cost of $1 million per day, or $1.4 billion over the course of four years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey could go either way right now,\u201d the source said. \u201cThey will ultimately do what\u2019s best for Barron.\u201d<\/p>\n

Obama White House decorator Michael Smith told the\u00a0Washington Post<\/em><\/a> that Kannalikham\u00a0\u201cjoins a very select club and is one of the people who have been fortunate enough to work for first families. As I\u2019ve said many times, every time you move a chair or lamp in the White House, it is part of the fabric of history.\u201d<\/p>\n
