Gender Revolution: <\/em>A Journey with Katie Couric<\/em><\/a>, airing tonight on the National Geographic channel,\u00a0is a two-hour documentary that explores how gender\u00a0is defined, formed, and influenced by science, society, and self – making it an excellent companion to\u00a0National Geographic<\/em> magazine’s\u00a0January issue which is devoted entirely\u00a0to covering gender all around the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Journalist Katie Couric\u00a0travels across\u00a0the United States and to Samoa\u00a0to talk\u00a0with experts about the role genetics, brain chemistry, and culture play in defining and forming gender identity, while also\u00a0engaging\u00a0in intimate\u00a0conversations with transgender and gender non-conforming people\u00a0and their families\u00a0to better understand their personal experiences, including Gavin Grimm, the Virginia teenage trans boy whose legal case to be treated like every other boy in school, will be heard before the Supreme Court<\/a>\u00a0next month.<\/p>\n

The documentary is an educational and enlightening exploration of gender,\u00a0and a must-see for anyone interested in learning more about transgender people and\u00a0how gender identity is defined, formed, and influenced.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0154-page January issue of National Geographic\u00a0<\/em>magazine\u00a0takes readers on a trip around the globe, profiling young people\u00a0from the \"\"Americas to the Middle East, Africa to China about how gender is felt, viewed, shared, and\u00a0shaped in cultures and local communities. One of the featured articles,\u00a0“Rethinking Gender” by Robin Marantz Henig, is nominated for a\u00a028th Annual GLAAD Media Award<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric\u00a0<\/em>premieres Monday, February 6 at 9:00\u00a0pm ET on the National Geographic channel.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the broadcast premiere,\u00a0Katie Couric will host a Facebook Live town hall discussion, allowing viewers to submit questions and comments<\/a>, as well as hear updates about\u00a0people seen in the documentary.
