This classic documentary dives deep into the ball culture of 1980s New York City and the largely queer people of color community that defined it. To say it\u2019s essential viewing is a vast understatement.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n From This Day Forward: A Trans Love Story<\/em> (2015), available Feb. 1 on Netflix<\/p>\n Like a real-life Transparent<\/em>, this film follows the true story of a transgender woman<\/a> and her family as they journey to deepen each other\u2019s understanding of one another.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Me, Myself and Her<\/em> (2015), available Feb. 6 on Netflix<\/p>\n If you don\u2019t mind the sort of tired \u201clesbian<\/a> cheats on her partner with a man<\/a>\u201d trope, this Italian film paints a compelling portrait of desire and temptation. It\u2019s kind of like\u00a0I Bambini Stanno Bene<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n King Cobra<\/em> (2016), available Feb. 14 on Netflix<\/p>\n Celebrate Valentine\u2019s Day by indulging in this crime drama inspired by the murder of gay<\/a> porn producer Bryan Kocis. The film portrays the complicated and volatile career of early-aughts gay<\/a> porn star Brent Corrigan and the battle for his performance contract that led to the slaying of Kocis.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Fire Song\u00a0<\/em>(2015), available Feb. 15 on Netflix<\/p>\n One of the few films to focus on queer youths in native populations, Fire Song<\/em> follows a gay<\/a> Anishinaabe teenager coping with his sister\u2019s suicide, deciding between going off to college and staying to support his family.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Milk<\/em> (2008), available Feb. 16 on Netflix.<\/p>\n Director Gus Van Sant\u2019s and writer Dustin Lance Black\u2019s stunning biopic of civil rights pioneer Harvey Milk boasts an all-star cast, including Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, James Franco and Emile Hirsch.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Rent<\/em> (2005), available Feb. 1 on Hulu.<\/p>\n Yes, it\u2019s terribly dated, and, yes, the aging original Broadway cast can barely pass for the idealist youths they originally portrayed, but just try to stop yourself to singing along. Plus, Idina Menzel is always a KWEEN.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n I Love You Phillip Morris<\/em> (2009), available Feb. 3 on Hulu.<\/p>\n Jim Carrey schemes his way out of prison and into Ewan McGregor\u2019s heart as a gay<\/a> con artist in this dark comedy.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Crossroads<\/em> (2002), available Feb. 1 on HBO<\/p>\n Did you know Shonda Rhimes wrote this Britney Spears \u201cacting\u201d vehicle?
