Teen\u2019s antigay rant shows the bigotry LGBTQ youth face every day<\/b><\/p>\n

A\u00a0Queerty<\/em> reader has directed us to a video<\/a> of a teen<\/a> expressing his severe\u00a0homophobia, and we feel it deserves to be seen. We must warn you that he uses highly offensive language, and if you\u2019re sensitive to hate speech, you may want to move on.<\/p>\n

While antigay hostility on high school campuses (or anywhere else for that matter) is by no means a recent phenomenon, the willingness of bigots to wear their ignorance on their sleeves has become noticeably more pronounced in our recent\u00a0sociopolitical atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Permission for bullying has been given by example at the highest levels of our government, and that attitude trickles down to America\u2019s youth, who look to adults to develop a sense of what is right or wrong.<\/p>\n

In the video<\/a>, the boy<\/a> goes on a five minute rant about an \u201cinflux\u201d of queer kids at his school. \u201cMore people are coming into the ninth grade that are gay<\/a>,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019m also going to call<\/a> them fa**ots, and if that offends you, unfriend me on Facebook because I really don\u2019t care. And it\u2019s not so much that they\u2019re gay<\/a>, it\u2019s that they are flashing their gayness to\u00a0everybody<\/em>, and that\u2019s the part that\u2019s pissing me off.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continues: \u201cI don\u2019t want to see two little queers walking down the hallway grabbing each other\u2019s butts. I just can\u2019t take that \u2014 that\u2019s disgusting to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

If a straight couple<\/a> wants to do the same thing, he later explains, that\u2019s a totally different story.<\/p>\n

Also among his list of offenses are boys<\/a> who dye their hair or \u201cact like women<\/a>.\u201d Actually, he thinks many of them aren\u2019t gay<\/a> at all, and are only seeking attention with their \u201cqueerness.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest with you,\u201d he says, \u201cI don\u2019t think most people want to see that, because it\u2019s not that accepted \u2014 it\u2019s really not.\u201d<\/p>\n

We sincerely hope this boy<\/a> develops beyond his current state of ignorance, and it\u2019s certainly possible\u00a0that he will.<\/p>\n

But unfortunately, his adolescent view of the world falls in line with a large and vocal\u00a0group of adults who also perceive anything different from them as offensive and a threat. And that\u2019s to say nothing of the fact that homophobia has been linked to same-sex attraction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the 2015 GLSEN National School Climate Survey<\/a>, anti-LGBT harassment at schools is on the decline, and we want to see that trend continue even in the face of a new government run by bullies.<\/p>\n
