Peter Capaldi<\/a> announced this week that he will end his run in the role of The Doctor in the BBC television show \u201cDoctor Who\u201d at the end of the 2017 season, making way for a new actor to take on the iconic part.<\/p>\n

Capaldi has been playing The Doctor since 2013.<\/p>\n

Bookies have placed odds on openly gay<\/a> actor\u00a0Ben Whishaw<\/a>\u00a0to replace Capaldi, reports Gay Times<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

This is not the first time fans have expected Whishaw to win the part, as many expected he would take over for Matt Smith back in 2013.<\/p>\n

In those years, he has instead starred in a number of films and television projects, including the\u00a0BBC Two\u00a0drama \u201cLondon Spy,\u201d for which he won a BAFTA nomination for best actor, and the films \u201cLilting<\/a>,\u201d \u201cThe Lobster<\/a>,\u201d and \u201cThe Danish Girl<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

He came out publicly in 2013<\/a>, and announced at the same time that he was in a civil partnership with Australian composer Mark Bradshaw, which they entered into in 2012.<\/p>\n
