Administration deceives Americans with reported plans to <\/i><\/b>legalize anti-LGBTQ discrimination across the country<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

According to The Nation<\/a>, a leaked copy of a draft executive order reveals plans by the Trump administration to “legalize discrimination.” This comes after President Donald Trump’s\u00a0misleading pledge earlier this week to leave in place federal workplace protections for LGBTQ\u00a0people.\u00a0The executive order, obtained by The Investigative Fund and The Nation, could allow for businesses, schools, and even healthcare providers to turn away LGBTQ people based on \u201creligious freedoms.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anything in this document were to become federal law, it would be a national license to discriminate, and it would endanger\u00a0LGBTQ people\u00a0and their families,\u201d\u00a0said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President & CEO<\/b>. \u201cFreedom of Religion does not mean the freedom to discriminate. If the Trump Administration moves forward with any of these unconstitutional and un-American policies, the chorus of public outcry will get even louder while the president\u2019s approval ratings continue to crumble.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Trump\u2019s planned anti-LGBTQ executive order, a draft of which was reported on by the media on Wednesday, is strikingly similar to Indiana\u2019s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) \u2013 a law Vice President Mike Pence championed\u00a0and signed into law\u00a0while governor. Public\u00a0backlash to that law was immediate and severe, causing a $250 million economic panic, prompting companies to postpone business expansions, and derailing the state\u2019s reputation\u00a0as a welcoming place for all people.<\/p>\n

So what could President Trump\u2019s reported national ‘License to Discriminate’ order\u00a0mean for LGBTQ Americans? Here\u2019s a look at just some of what could take place as discrimination is enshrined in federal law.<\/p>\n

WHAT TRUMP\u2019S EXECUTIVE ORDER COULD\u00a0MEAN FOR LGBTQ AMERICANS:<\/b><\/p>\n

1) Employers\u00a0without penalty<\/b>\u00a0may\u00a0<\/b>fire\u00a0an LGBTQ person from their job because of religious freedom.<\/p>\n

2) Child welfare and adoption services\u00a0without penalty<\/b>\u00a0may\u00a0deny LGBTQ couples<\/a> the ability to adopt children.<\/p>\n

3) Health care providers without penalty<\/b>\u00a0may\u00a0deny LGBTQ people, including women<\/a>, critical services that are important to their health needs.<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0Schools without penalty<\/b>\u00a0may openly discriminate against LGBTQ teachers, faculty, and students.<\/p>\n

5) Government officials without penalty<\/b>\u00a0may\u00a0deny LGBTQ people services \u2013 including county clerks who issue marriage licenses for couples<\/a>.<\/p>\n

6) Businesses without penalty<\/b>\u00a0may\u00a0deny LGBTQ people services, including pharmacies,\u00a0restaurants, beauty salons, sporting events, etc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
