How is this guy<\/a> a brain surgeon?\u00a0During his confirmation hearing this week, Ben Carson said that LGBTs want \u201cextra rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carson is being considered for the role of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development \u2014 sure, why the hell not. Previously, he said that he shouldn\u2019t have a role in the administration because he doesn\u2019t have enough experience \u2014 kind of a funny position to take, given that he was also running for president at one point.<\/p>\n

The statement came out when Senator Sherrod Brown asked him what he would do to ensure that LGBT people wouldn\u2019t be kicked out of public housing for being gay<\/a>. Currently,\u00a0the law is\u00a0shifting and vague \u2014 although the HUD issued multiple rules barring discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and identity, those guidelines haven\u2019t been codified in law and continue to\u00a0be the subject of lawsuits.<\/p>\n

But Carson\u2019s position: \u201cWhat I have said before is I don\u2019t think anyone should get extra rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s super, that wanting the security of knowing that you won\u2019t be thrown\u00a0out of your home is an \u201cextra right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carson loves to accuse queer people of demanding \u201cextra rights.\u201d Here\u2019s what he said about LGBT people in the past:<\/p>\n

I think everybody has equal rights, but I\u2019m not sure that anybody should have extra rights\u2014extra rights when it comes to redefining everything for everybody else and imposing your view on everybody else.\u201d<\/p>\n

And who could forget the time he said that marriage equality leads to polygamy?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

But hey, Donald\u00a0Trump once held up a rainbow flag that said \u201cLGBTs for Trump\u201d\u00a0so we probably have nothing to worry about! You can totally trust Republicans to have your best interests at heart!<\/p>\n
