Gay men<\/a>, please stop using the term \u201cBBC,\u201d It\u2019s racist, blogger says<\/b><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cSize generally matters in the gay<\/a> meat market,\u201d author Jeremy Helligar writes in a new op-ed<\/a> at Honey9, \u201cregardless of racial considerations, but the curiosity and expectations so often attached to dark meat raises the ick factor to a level of grotesque.\u201d<\/p>\n

Helligar is the author of the humorous travelogue Is It True What They Say About Black Men?,\u00a0<\/em>which examines\u00a0how gay<\/a> black men<\/a> are viewed, and often objectified, in countries all around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cLately, though, I\u2019ve noticed a shift, especially on Grindr,\u201d Helligar\u00a0writes. \u201cGuys rarely ask me if it\u2019s true what they say about black men<\/a> anymore. That\u2019s so 2011. Now they often send me messages that say, simply, \u2018BBC\u2019, or occasionally, \u2018BBC?\u2019\u2013and not because they\u2019re confusing me with the British broadcaster.\u201d<\/p>\n

BBC, for those of you know may not know, is internet shorthand for big black c*ck. And, in Helligar\u2019s opinion, it\u2019s kinda racist. Here\u2019s why:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s basically saying that as a black man<\/a>, that is my primary value,\u201d he\u00a0says.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t figured out if the gay<\/a> white men<\/a> who use it do so because it\u2019s easier to write,\u201d he continues, \u201cor if it\u2019s just too embarrassing to spell out \u2018big black blank.\u2019 Whatever the reason, the implication is the same: I\u2019m no longer a three-dimensional person. I am my big black blank.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a result of constantly being asked about his BBC, which\u00a0Helligar says has quickly become \u201cthe new bane of my gay<\/a> existence,\u201d it\u2019s opened his eyes to another problem in our society: the\u00a0crap women<\/a> have to put up with when it comes to being objectified.<\/p>\n

\u201cWould you want your sister to get involved with a guy<\/a> who refers to her as \u2018BB\u2019 for \u2018big breasts\u2019?\u201d he asks. \u201cThe sad thing is, most women<\/a> probably hear far worse on a regular basis. I sympathize. I empathize. I know how it feels.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m certain that I haven\u2019t seen the last of \u2018BBC,’\u201d Helligar adds, adding that he\u2019s sure \u201cmy protestations [over the term] will likely be met with shrugs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a world where a rich white man<\/a> can be caught on tape boasting about sexually assaulting women<\/a> and still be elected leader of the free world, no one\u2019s going to get too worked up over a little \u2018BBC\u2019\u2026except for the men<\/a> it objectifies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd ladies<\/a>,\u201d he concludes, \u201cwe feel your pain.\u201d<\/p>\n
