It\u2019s about getting real, moving intentionally, and finding connections that align with your values (and maybe your star sign, too). We surveyed more than 1,200 singles on OkCupid to better understand how people are dating right now, and let\u2019s just say: the vibe has\u00a0shifted.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what\u2019s in, what\u2019s out, and what Gen Z and Millennials (aka 90% of our respondents) are thinking about when it comes to modern\u00a0love.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Apps Are Still\u00a0<em>It<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite what your one friend who met their partner at a dinner party keeps saying, dating apps aren\u2019t going anywhere. In fact, they\u2019re still <em>the<\/em> primary way people are meeting romantic prospects in 2025, especially among younger\u00a0singles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>57% of respondents said they\u2019re meeting people primarily through dating\u00a0apps<\/li>\n<li>Only 11% are meeting partners \u201cin real life\u201d (through work, friends, or\u00a0events)<\/li>\n<li>And 38% are doing a mix of\u00a0both<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So no, you\u2019re not the only one who hasn\u2019t locked eyes across a crowded bookstore lately. You\u2019re just dating in the 21st\u00a0century.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Slower, Softer Dating Is the\u00a0Mood<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIntentional dating\u201d isn\u2019t just a trending phrase. It\u2019s a lifestyle. When we asked people to describe their current dating mindset, one thing was clear: gone are the days of rapid-fire flings and undefined situationships:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>71% of singles said they\u2019re looking for <em>something meaningful,<\/em> even if it takes\u00a0time<\/li>\n<li>52% are open to what feels right but want\u00a0<em>clarity<\/em><\/li>\n<li>25% are dating slowly to protect their\u00a0energy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/1024\/1*FmZEd31AnuhOTqMGSXhHVA.png\"><\/figure>\n<p>Basically, dating with purpose is in. Ghosting and playing it cool?\u00a0Out.<\/p>\n<p>That also shows up in how people are managing their connections: 40% of daters are focused on just one person at a time. Not because they\u2019re not getting matches, but because they\u2019re getting\u00a0serious.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Values First, Situationships Second<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s actually guiding people\u2019s approach to dating this year? Spoiler alert: it\u2019s not TikTok advice or reality\u00a0TV.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>61% said <em>personal values and life goals<\/em> shape how they\u00a0date<\/li>\n<li>34% are influenced by <em>past relationships<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Social media, pop culture, and even friends barely registered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The takeaway? Today\u2019s singles know what they want because they\u2019ve taken the time to learn from what didn\u2019t\u00a0work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DTR: Define the Relationship, But Don\u2019t Rush\u00a0It<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even with all this intentionality, most daters aren\u2019t rushing to label things. That doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re avoiding commitment\u200a\u2014\u200ait just means they\u2019re moving at their own\u00a0pace.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>31% prefer to take things slow and see where it\u00a0goes<\/li>\n<li>28% are ready to define things when <em>they<\/em> feel\u00a0it<\/li>\n<li>22% bring it up after a few good\u00a0dates<\/li>\n<li>Only 6% avoid labels altogether<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So yes, \u201cWhat are we?\u201d is still alive and well. It\u2019s just being asked on your timeline, not society\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We See You, Stalkers\u00a0(Same)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before going on a first date, more than half of respondents admit they do a little\u2026research.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>57% check their date\u2019s Instagram<\/li>\n<li>20% Google their political views<\/li>\n<li>13% look up their zodiac\u00a0sign<\/li>\n<li>10% dig into salary or job\u00a0title<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No judgment here! Consider it dating due diligence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sex, Money, and Everything In\u00a0Between<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When it comes to money, most daters aren\u2019t looking for a specific income, they\u2019re looking for ambition and alignment.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>68% would date someone who makes significantly less, as long as they\u2019re driven or money isn\u2019t a priority for\u00a0them<\/li>\n<li>Only 11% flat-out said they\u00a0wouldn\u2019t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As for <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/couples\/?mp_code=akftr\">sex<\/a>? It matters. A\u00a0lot.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>79% say sexual compatibility is either \u201cvery\u201d or \u201cextremely\u201d important to relationship success<\/li>\n<li>But that doesn\u2019t mean people are rushing into those conversations. More than half (52%) of singles prefer to wait until it comes up naturally, while 21% talk about it after a few\u00a0dates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/1024\/1*XS4qF06cLSPMg85CmzlwfA.png\"><\/figure>\n<p>Once in a relationship, the majority want a balance: 72% prefer a mix of spontaneous <em>and<\/em> scheduled <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/couples\/?mp_code=akftr\">sex<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So what does all of this\u00a0mean?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dating in 2025 is thoughtful. It\u2019s emotionally aware. And it\u2019s happening (mostly) on apps like OkCupid. Whether you\u2019re figuring it out or already found your person, one thing\u2019s for sure: there\u2019s no \u201cright\u201d way to date.
