It appeared that the <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">men<\/a> were arrested for refusing to remove masks.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department had declared the festival an &ldquo;extraordinary event&rdquo; due to large crowds expected because of the state&rsquo;s anti-LGBT law HB 2<\/p>\n<p>Watch (arrest footage begins around 9:30):<\/p>\n<div data-allowfullscreen=\"true\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NBCCharlotte\/videos\/1233396576701830\/\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/goqnotes.com\/46693\/two-counter-protesters-in-masks-arrested-at-charlotte-pride\/\" target=\"_blank\">Q Notes reports<\/a> that &ldquo;there is an anti-mask law in North Carolina, prohibiting anyone from wearing them on &ldquo;public ways&rdquo;:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/goqnotes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/nc-mask-law.jpg?resize=740%2C119\" sizes=\"(max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/goqnotes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/nc-mask-law.jpg?resize=740%2C119 751w, http:\/\/goqnotes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/nc-mask-law-300x48.jpg 300w, http:\/\/goqnotes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/nc-mask-law-595x96.jpg 595w\" alt=\"nc mask law\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncga.state.nc.us\/EnactedLegislation\/Statutes\/PDF\/ByArticle\/Chapter_14\/Article_4A.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Enacted legislation Article 4A of Chapter 14<\/a> states that, &ldquo;No person or persons at least 16 years of age shall, while wearing any mask, hood or device whereby the person, face or voice is disguised as to conceal the identity of the wearer, enter, be or appear upon any lane, walkway, alley, street, road, highway or other public way in this State.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The law was passed in 1953, in response to Ku Klux Klan members hiding their identities with hoods. Anti-mask laws exists in a number of states.<\/p>\n<p>Occupy protesters, many of whom wore Guy Fawkes masks during protests, were targeted by these laws, as have other protesters.<\/p>\n<p>The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/news\/hi-oh-silver-aclu-challenges-michigan-anti-mask-law-behalf-lone-ranger-protesters?redirect=free-speech\/hi-oh-silver-aclu-challenges-michigan-anti-mask-law-behalf-lone-ranger-protesters\" target=\"_blank\">has argued that these laws<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aclumich.org\/article\/aclu-files-lawsuit-challenging-state-anti-mask-law-anniversary-oas-demonst\" target=\"_blank\">are unconstitutional<\/a>, arguing they violate the First Amendment. So far they have <a href=\"http:\/\/lawprofessors.typepad.com\/conlaw\/2015\/07\/anti-masking-laws-the-ku-klux-klan-and-the-first-amendment.html\" target=\"_blank\">held up against legal challenges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Q Notes also identified the counter-protesters as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mecksheriffweb.mecklenburgcountync.gov\/Arrest\/Details\/1695100?pid=347875&amp;firstName=michael&amp;lastName=behrle&amp;last24only=False\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Behrle<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mecksheriffweb.mecklenburgcountync.gov\/Arrest\/Details\/1695099?pid=458833&amp;firstName=daniel&amp;lastName=gardner&amp;last24only=False\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Gardner<\/a>&nbsp;and says that they were charged with second degree trespass.<\/p>\n<p>And the anti-LGBT Christian Bible-thumpers in the <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=grq0&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">video<\/a> above&nbsp;weren&rsquo;t the only ones trying to disrupt it.<\/p>\n<p>Right-wing nutjob Flip Benham had a loudspeaker setup near one of the stages and was preaching about anal <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/couples\/?mp_code=akftr\">sex<\/a>&nbsp;from it:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>On the flip side, there were more churches participating in the Pride festivities than ever before,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/news\/local\/article97033432.html\" target=\"_blank\"> the <em>Charlotte Observer<\/em> reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Churches made up more than 10 percent of the 135 contingents in the parade this year, compared to one church that marched in the first parade back in 1994. Some even came with their choirs, driving up parade participation from 2,500 last year to 3,300 this year. Crowds watching the parade were five and six deep in the blocks north of Trade and Tryon streets.<\/p>\n<p>Christina Woodruff attended as a member of Missiongathering Charlotte, which is among the congregations that joined in this year for the first time. The church&rsquo;s float featured nationally known Christian singer Trey Pearson, who shocked the music industry in June by coming out as <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">gay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;To those preachers out there screaming the insults, we love you, but stop it,&rdquo; said Steve Knight of Missiongathering Charlotte.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Those street preachers screaming hate get so much attention from the media, but there are more churches out here showing their support for LGBT people.
