Men should be particularly concerned, as there has been an increase in the number of <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">male<\/a> diagnoses in the last few years.<\/p>\n<p>The currently recommended method for treatment of&nbsp;gonorrhea is a combination of the antibiotics azithromycin and ceftriaxone. According to new data, however, gonorrhea is growing increasingly harder to fight.<\/p>\n<p>Resistance to azithromycin increased by more than 400 percent&nbsp;between 2013 and 2014,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchhstp\/newsroom\/2016\/gonorrhea-treatment-press-release.html\">&ldquo;a distressing sign that the future of current treatment options may be in jeopardy.&rdquo;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The CDC published a study in this week&rsquo;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/65\/ss\/ss6507a1.htm?s_cid=ss6507_w\">Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report<\/a>&nbsp;from the Gonococcal Isolate Surveillance Project (GISP), where researchers analyzed 5,093 isolates of gonorrhea collected in 2014 from <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">men<\/a> who visited sexually transmitted diseases (STI) clinics at 27 sites across the United States. Resistance to&nbsp;azithromycin increased from 0.6% in 2013 to 2.5% in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The confluence of emerging drug resistance and very limited alternative options for treatment creates a perfect storm for future gonorrhea treatment failure in the U.S.,&rdquo; Dr. Jonathan Mermin, director of the&nbsp;CDC&rsquo;s National Center for HIV\/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and Tuberculosis Prevention <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchhstp\/newsroom\/2016\/gonorrhea-treatment-press-release.html\">said in a press release.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The growing threat of untreatable gonorrhea, combined with increasing rates of disease, makes it more important than ever to prevent new infections&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;There is a critical need to strengthen STD prevention services.
