Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.<\/p>\n

1)<\/strong> The work of out director Ira Sachs will be featured in a new exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art from July 22nd<\/sup> to August 3rd<\/sup>. Thank You For Being Honest: The Films of Ira Sachs<\/em><\/a> is a midcareer retrospective of the filmmaker and will put the all of his work on showcase, from his short films to his acclaimed features like Keep The Lights On<\/em> (2012) and Love Is Strange<\/em> (2014). Forty Shades of Blue<\/em> (2005) will start the series, and Little Men<\/em> (2016) will end it, both followed by Q&As with Sachs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

2)<\/strong> Still a Rose<\/em>, the queer short film reimagining Romeo & Juliet<\/em>, was released on iTunes and Vimeo this week<\/a>. The film focuses on the well known balcony scene with two pairs of Romeos and Juliets – Pretty Little Liars<\/em>‘ Troian Bellisario and Will Branske sharing the role of Juliet and Tinuke Oyefule and Brandon Chowder sharing the role of Romeo.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

3)<\/strong> Investigation Discovery has acquired the U.S. TV premiere rights to the documentary Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four<\/em> <\/a>and will air the film this fall. The documentary, which premiered in April at the Tribeca Film Festival, tells the story of the persecution and wrongful conviction of four Latina lesbians<\/a> in San Antonia over 20 years ago and their struggle for exoneration. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

4)<\/strong> Australian television show Barracuda<\/em> premiered<\/a> last Sunday. Set in the late 90s, the show focuses on sixteen-year-old swimmer Danny Kelly, as he struggles with his sexuality and trains for the Olympics. The show will air three more episodes in anticipation of the Rio Olympics. Logo has announced Finding Prince Charming<\/em><\/a> – a new gay<\/a> dating show in the same vein as The Bachelor<\/em> – where thirteen bachelors will compete for the man<\/a> of their dreams, with Lance Bass attached to host.<\/p>\n

5)<\/strong> Supergirl<\/em> will introduce Maggie Sawyer<\/a>, a gay<\/a> detective interested in all things alien played by Floriana Lima, as a series regular in its second season. Additionally, out actor John Barrowman was promoted to a series regular<\/a> on all of The CW’s DC Universe television shows, making his character a regular on The Flash<\/em>, Supergirl<\/em>, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow<\/em> on top of Arrow<\/em>.<\/p>\n

6)<\/strong> Elton John released his music video<\/a> for “A Good Heart” earlier this week. The video<\/a> showcases many different kinds of relationships and celebrates their varied successes and struggles. The video<\/a> includes John wearing items from the Love Bravery line of clothing from The Elton John AIDS Foundation and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation<\/a>. 7)<\/strong> The team behind The Boy From Mushin<\/em> has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support their upcoming documentary. This film depicts the life of Bisi Alimi, a Nigerian man<\/a> who came out as gay<\/a> on live<\/a> television after the President of the country declared that there were “no gays<\/a> in Nigeria.” The funds raised will go towards the equipment, travel, and crew members necessary to keep production going.
