Man Booker Prize Winner Marlon James Was Tortured By \u2018Ex-Gay\u2019 Exorcism: VIDEO<\/b><\/p>\n

Jamaican<\/b><\/a> author and Man Booker Prize winner Marlon James has claimed that preachers tortured him in order to “cure” him of his sexuality.<\/span><\/p>\n

James, who had struggled to come to terms with being gay<\/a>, said the treatment involved “a mixture of prayer and support and shaming and vomiting.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking during an <\/span>interview<\/b><\/a> at the Hay Festival of Literature & Arts in Wales, he said the ‘exorcism’ made him feel cured. “I thought ‘Great, I am getting rid of demons’, until I read up on the whole ex-gay<\/a> thing,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

James added that “ex-gay<\/a>” therapy is “dangerously misleading and I think has been discredited. It is a really primitive and backward way of curing people.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Homosexuality remains <\/span>illegal<\/b><\/a> in Jamaica. <\/span><\/p>\n

The country <\/span>celebrated<\/b><\/a> its first Pride Festival in August last year.<\/span><\/p>\n
