Stories of people living with HIV among 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards nominees<\/b><\/p>\n

Among the nominees for the 27th annual GLAAD Media Awards<\/a>, several included stories of LGBT people living with HIV.<\/p>\n

\"\"In entertainment, Oxygen’s reality show, The Prancing Elites Project<\/em>, included dance team member Kareem Davis revealing his recent HIV-positive status to his teammates. This revelation was met with support from both his teammates and Oxygen, which announced a partnership with the National Minority AIDS Council. <\/p>\n

Also on TV, HBO’s Looking <\/em>and ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder<\/em> were the only two scripted shows to include HIV-positive characters. Both featured characters living with HIV as well as discussions about PrEP, a pill taken once a day to prevent HIV infection.<\/p>\n

\"\"PrEP gained even more attention this past year with Vice.com<\/a>‘s “Stopping HIV? The Truvada Revolution.” In this three-part episode of VICE Reports<\/em>, VICE explores the controversy around Truvada for PrEP and its revolutionary approach to ending HIV infection. This series earned a nod in the GLAAD Media Awards’<\/a> Outstanding  Digital  Journalism – Multimedia category.<\/p>\n

Since its foundation, GLAAD has worked to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment. In 2015, GLAAD and The Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation<\/a> released a public service announcement (PSA)<\/a> in an effort to reignite the passion and action needed to beat the HIV and AIDS epidemic. The GLAAD Media Awards<\/a> recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian<\/a>, gay<\/a>, bisexual<\/a> and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards<\/a> also fund GLAAD’s work to amplify stories from the LGBT community and issues that build support for equality.<\/p>\n
