{"id":27048,"date":"2015-10-27T20:20:03","date_gmt":"2015-10-28T00:20:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gayfriendschat.com\/socialblog\/this-comic-perfectly-captures-what-life-is-like-after-a-breakup\/"},"modified":"2015-10-27T20:20:03","modified_gmt":"2015-10-28T00:20:03","slug":"this-comic-perfectly-captures-what-life-is-like-after-a-breakup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gayfriendschat.com\/socialblog\/this-comic-perfectly-captures-what-life-is-like-after-a-breakup\/","title":{"rendered":"This Comic Perfectly Captures What Life Is Like After A Breakup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>This Comic Perfectly Captures What Life Is Like After A Breakup<\/b><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>When his relationship ended after two years in 2014,&nbsp;Brandon Sheffield felt like there was a &#8220;very specific person-sized hole&#8221; in his life.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span>To cheer himself up,&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/brandonsheffield.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oakland, California-based video game director<\/a>&nbsp;started writing little vignettes about his experiences, documenting everything from how awkward he felt going out sans-<a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/?mp_code=akftr\">girlfriend<\/a> to how depressing it was to crawl into bed alone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I noticed there were certain patterns to the way I felt and sort of rolled around through my days,&#8221;&nbsp;Sheffield told HuffPost. &#8220;But I also realized that even though my emotional wounds were specific to me, the<em> way<\/em>&nbsp;I was acting was very similar to what I&#8217;d seen friends go through.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Realizing how universal his routine was,&nbsp;Sheffield asked his friend, New York-based&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/asperusualcomics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">illustrator Dami Lee<\/a>,&nbsp;to turn the stories into comic strips &#8212; a project<a href=\"http:\/\/tapastic.com\/episode\/53418\" target=\"_blank\">&nbsp;they&#8217;d eventually call No Girlfriend Comics.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She added bits of herself here and there, which I think made the comic more relatable and not just for dudes,&#8221; Sheffield said of his collaboration with Lee,&nbsp;who was living in Seoul, Korea at the time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>(Story continues after the comic.)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The sweetly relatable comics &#8212;&nbsp;which ran on the site <a href=\"http:\/\/tapastic.com\/episode\/53418\" target=\"_blank\">Tapastic from early August to December 2014<\/a>&nbsp;&#8212;&nbsp;<span>touched a nerve with readers, so much so that when Sheffield and Lee wrapped up the series after 20 installments, their audience wanted more.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People complained when the series ended because they really wanted Brandon (the character) to stay miserable!&#8221; Lee told HuffPost,&#8221;But it felt right to end it at 20 comics instead of continuing the series; it represented a passing phase that everyone goes through at some point.
