Following backlash, Caitlyn Jenner now unequivocally supportive of gay<\/a> marriage<\/b><\/p>\n

Caitlyn Jenner’s lukewarm endorsement of same-sex marriage<\/a> during an appearance of The Ellen DeGeneres Show last week baffled many – including the host.<\/p>\n

But in a WhoSay column<\/a> posted Monday (14 September), Jenner tries harder to leave no doubt about where she stands on the issue.<\/p>\n

‘Like many people, there was a time when I didn’t realize how important it is for gay<\/a> couples<\/a> to have the right to get married,’ she writes. ‘But after hearing from my gay<\/a> friends and learning more about the hardships they faced because of discrimination, it became clear to me that everyone should be able to marry the person they love.’<\/p>\n

Jenner, 65, had told DeGeneres: ‘I have to admit – I remember 15 years ago, 20 years ago whenever it was when the whole gay<\/a> marriage issue came up – at first I was not for it.<\/p>\n

‘I mean I thought I’m a traditionalist. I’m older than most people in the audience. I kind of like tradition and it’s always been a man<\/a> and a woman<\/a>. And I’m thinking I don’t quite get it. But as time has gone on, I think like a lot of people on this issue have really changed their thinking here to I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness. That’s not my job. … If that word marriage is really that important to you I can go with it. I’m on board. I’m okay with that,’<\/p>\n

DeGeneres called Jenner out on the spot then later during an interview with Howard Stern<\/a>: ‘She still has a judgement about gay<\/a> marriage.…You’re wanting people to understand and accept you – this is like really confusing to people and you still have a judgement about gay<\/a> people and marriage.’<\/p>\n

Jenner is a Republican and been married and divorced three times.<\/p>\n
