Members of Congress gathered today in the Senate’s LBJ room to announce the introduction of a historic bill that would extend non-discrimination protections to all LGBT Americans.<\/p>\n
Via the Human Rights Campaign<\/a>:<\/p>\n The Equality Act, <\/em>which was introduced by Senators Jeff Merkley, Tammy Baldwin, Cory Booker, and Representative David Cicilline, has more than 140 cosponsors in the House, including Representative John Lewis, and at least 39 in the Senate. The legislation establishes explicit, permanent protections against discrimination based on an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity in matters of employment, housing, access to public places, federal funding, credit, education and jury service.
