Sues University For Firing Professor Who Transitioned<\/b><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/towleroad.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c730253ef01b7c76f1934970b-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Eric_Holder_official_portrait\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/towleroad.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c730253ef01b7c76f1934970b-800wi\" title=\"Eric_Holder_official_portrait\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.towleroad.com\/2014\/12\/the-justice-department-now-supports-claims-of-anti-trans-discrimination-under-title-vii.html\" target=\"_self\">Justice Department<\/a> has announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-files-lawsuit-alleging-southeastern-oklahoma-state-university\" target=\"_blank\">the filing of a lawsuit<\/a> against Southeastern <a href=\"http:\/\/www.towleroad.com\/oklahoma\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Oklahoma\">Oklahoma<\/a> State University (SOSU) and the Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) for discriminating against a transgender employee.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The lawsuit claims that under <a href=\"http:\/\/www.towleroad.com\/2012\/04\/titleseven.html\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Title VII\">Title VII of the Civil Rights Act<\/a> of 1964, SOSU and RUSO discriminated against the transgender employee on the basis of her <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/couples\/?mp_code=akftr\">sex<\/a> and retaliated against her when she complained.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.towleroad.com\/2015\/03\/attorney-general-eric-holder-names-openly-gay-man-to-lead-department-of-justices-civil-division.html\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Eric Holder\">Attorney General Eric Holder<\/a> (above) announced last year that the Department of Justice will extend Title VII&rsquo;s prohibition against <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/couples\/?mp_code=akftr\">sex<\/a> discrimination protection to claims based on an individual&rsquo;s gender identity, including transgender status.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/towleroad.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c730253ef01b8d0f8b6b1970c-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"2000px-Seal_of_the_United_States_Department_of_Justice.svg\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/towleroad.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c730253ef01b8d0f8b6b1970c-800wi\" title=\"2000px-Seal_of_the_United_States_Department_of_Justice.svg\"><\/a>According to the complaint, Rachel Tudor began working at SOSU as an associate professor in 2004. At this time, Tudor identified as a <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/chaturbate.com\/in\/?tour=R2Xc&#38;campaign=hl4zp&#38;track=gfcsb\">man<\/a>. In 2007, she began to present as a <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/?mp_code=akftr\">woman<\/a>. However, in 2009 the university &nbsp;denied an application for a tenured promotion and overruled the recommendations of her department chair and other tenured faculty from her department. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The following year, Tudor filed complaints regarding the denial of her application. Shortly after it learned of her complaints, SOSU refused to let Tudor re-apply for promotion and tenure despite the college&rsquo;s policies permitting re-application. &nbsp;At the end of the 2010-11 academic year, SOSU and RUSO terminated Tudor&rsquo;s employment because she had not obtained tenure.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">On the announcement of the lawsuit, Holder said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&ldquo;By standing beside Dr. Tudor, the Department of Justice sends a clear message that we are committed to eliminating discrimination on the basis of <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/www.flirt4free.com\/live\/girls\/couples\/?mp_code=akftr\">sex<\/a> and gender identity.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We will not allow unfair biases and unjust prejudices to prevent transgender Americans from reaching their full potential as workers and as citizens. &nbsp;And we will continue to work tirelessly, using every legal tool available, to ensure that transgender individuals are guaranteed the rights and protections that all Americans deserve.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Chair Jenny R. Yang added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&ldquo;This is a tremendous example of how collaboration between EEOC and the Department of Justice leads to strong and coordinated enforcement of Title VII.
