Mean Girls<\/em><\/a> is headed back to the big screen… as a musical.<\/p>\n

Paramount Pictures has optioned the hit Broadway show based on the 2004 film<\/a> with the intention of bringing it to a theater near you. The same announcement also revealed that the stage show will hit London’s West End next year.<\/p>\n

“I’m very excited to bring Mean Girls <\/em>back to the big screen,” Tina Fey<\/a>, who wrote the film and stage production, told Variety<\/em>.<\/a> “It’s been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I’ve spent sixteen years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly.”<\/p>\n

No cast has been announced at this time. Mean Girls<\/em> nabbed 12 Tony nominations for its Broadway production which launched in 2018. The show joins the recent rash of musicals getting the Hollywood makeover, including West Side Story <\/em>and In the Heights, <\/em>both of which hit movie screens this year.<\/p>\n
