Actor Billy Dee Williams is living proof that gender fluidity isn\u2019t just something invented or embraced by younger generations, as some naysayers like to claim.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Esquire<\/a>, <\/em>the 82-year-old, who is currently promoting his new film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker<\/em>, said he\u00a0uses both masculine and feminine pronouns to describe himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI say \u2018himself\u2019 and \u2018herself,\u2019 because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine,\u201d Williams explained. \u201cI\u2019m a very soft person. I\u2019m not afraid to show that side of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Williams first played Lando Calrissian 1980\u2019s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back<\/em>. He is reprising the role in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, <\/em>which will be released later this month.<\/p>\n

In 2018, Donald Glover portrayed a young Landon in Solo: A Star Wars Story<\/em> and caused a stir when he talked about the character being pansexual.<\/p>\n

Williams also spoke to Esquire <\/em>about breaking other sorts of barriers.<\/p>\n

Recalling his performance as Gale Sayers in the 1971 TV movie Brian\u2019s Song, <\/em>for which was received an Emmy nomination, he explained, \u201cIt was a love story, really. Between two guys<\/a>. Without sex<\/a>. It ended up being a kind of breakthrough in terms of racial division.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

He also discussed attending Disney\u2019s D23 Expo last summer, where he spent time with the Rock and Jamie Foxx, both of whom said they owed their careers, in part, to the character of Lando.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Rock calls<\/a> me the OG,\u201d Williams said. \u201cWhat I presented on that screen people didn\u2019t expect to see. And I deliberately presented something that nobody had experienced before: a romantic brown-skinned boy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n
