It might seem appealing \u2014 convenient even! \u2014 to have a roommate with benefits. But judging by the anecdotes on Reddit, such arrangements can make for some hostile home environments.<\/p>\n

Reddit users discussed the prospect<\/a> after one guy<\/a> asked, \u201cRoomies as f*ck buddies, yay or nay?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCould get weird if things go south,\u201d one person replied. \u201cPun fully intended and not intended.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another wrote, \u201cIt didn\u2019t end well for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third commenter cited the \u201cDon\u2019t sh*t where you eat\u201d adage. \u201cSeparation in life is a good thing,\u201d he explained. \u201cKeep things simple.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis,\u201d someone else chimed in, praising the above comment. \u201cThe same reason you don\u2019t get involved with co-workers. Things will always get complicated when you set up a complex situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another commenter, meanwhile, offered a possible (if not practical) solution: \u201cFirst week yay, then just leave the city.\u201d<\/p>\n

But not all the commenters were naysayers. Some could see themselves as DTF with roomies.<\/p>\n

\u201cPotentially? Yay?\u201d one wrote. \u201cCurrently? Nay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another also voted \u201cyay,\u201d but added that he \u201cjust never had a roomie hot enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

On a thread from earlier this month<\/a>, some Redditors posted success stories. \u201cHooked up with one of my housemates in college for a couple<\/a> years and past college for about a year,\u201d one revealed. \u201cHe actually ended up getting married to one of our other roomies (female<\/a>) that I had also messed around with. They\u2019ve been married for about 28 years and had three kids. They\u2019re still good friends and we see them every couple<\/a> of years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another said he and his roomie had always had a \u201clevel of chemistry\u201d between them. \u201cSlept with each other one drunken night after an argument to make up and he is now one of my closest friends,\u201d he wrote. \u201cJust don\u2019t be weird about it and it won\u2019t change anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
