Andr\u00e9 Aciman Speaks Out About \u2018Call Me By Your Name\u2019 Sequel: \u2018I Think This Ends the Tale of Elio and Oliver\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n

Call Me By Your Name<\/em> author Andr\u00e9 Aciman is speaking out about Find Me<\/a><\/em>, his sequel to the first novel, which follows the characters of Elio and Oliver in adulthood and arrives on October 29 (SPOILERS AHEAD).<\/p>\n

Aciman told British Vogue<\/em><\/a> that for the first time, we hear from Elio\u2019s father Sami as the book opens with a section from his perspective. The name \u201cSami\u201d is something Aciman said he \u201cstole\u201d from the film.<\/p>\n

Aciman said that the characters tell their stories at 10, 15, and 20 year intervals following the timeframe of the first novel. Elio\u2019s father becomes involved with a younger woman<\/a> while Elio becomes involved with an older man<\/a> named Michel.<\/p>\n

The book leads to a \u201clong-awaited, inevitable reunion\u201d between Elio, and Oliver, who \u201cis in an unhappy marriage, ruminating over his love affair with Elio,\u201d according to <\/a>The Guardian<\/a><\/em>, which calls<\/a> the book an \u201cunashamedly romantic and philosophical novel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Added Aciman: \u201cThey are clearly more mature now and know how fragile life can be. They have both had other relationships, they know that they have to be careful and that a separation, should it occur again, would be devastating.\u00a0Find Me<\/em>\u00a0gave me a sense of closure and finality. Of course, life is full of surprises and no road is without bumps or wrong turns. But I think this ends the tale of Elio and Oliver.\u201d<\/p>\n

The plot, released previously by Farrar, Straus and Giroux<\/a>: \u201cIn\u00a0Find Me<\/em>, Aciman shows us Elio\u2019s father Samuel, now divorced, on a trip from Florence to Rome to visit Elio, who has become a gifted classical pianist. A chance encounter on the train leads to a relationship that changes Sami\u2019s life definitively. Elio soon moves to Paris where he too has a consequential affair, while Oliver, now a professor in northern New England with sons who are nearly grown, suddenly finds himself contemplating a return visit to Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n
