Dawson\u2019s Creek\u2019s Kerr Smith Reflects on TV\u2019s First Gay Kiss: WATCH<\/b><\/p>\n

Dawson\u2019s Creek\u2019s Kerr Smith, now 47, sat down with the entertainment site TooFab and reflected on his character Jack McPhee\u2019s history-making gay<\/a> kiss during season 3 of the show 19 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were the first ones to do that,\u201d said Smith. \u201cIt was a crazy experience back then but you\u2019re right, look at every single show now, it\u2019s pretty amazing. There\u2019s always a gay<\/a> storyline, or a lesbian<\/a> storyline or whatever. I was talking to Casey [Cott, on Riverdale<\/em>] and he\u2019s playing pretty much the same character I played on Dawson\u2019s<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember the day when Kevin Williamson came down to Wilmington, North Carolina, which was where we shot,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd he took me out, he said, \u2018Kerr, let\u2019s go get some coffee.\u2019 I\u2019m going, \u2018Oh no, am I fired?\u2019 And he throws this idea, \u2018We want to go down a different avenue with Jack,\u2019 and I go, \u2018What does that mean?’\u201d<\/p>\n

Continued Smith: \u201cObviously, he always had the intention of making one of his characters gay<\/a>, he was still in the closet at that point and every character in \u2018Dawson\u2019s Creek\u2019 is an extension of Kevin Williamson. My storyline ended up being largely Greg Berlanti\u2019s. It was an intense experience and I remember calling everybody that I respected and said, \u2018Hey should I do this?\u2019 Doing the first male<\/a>-male<\/a> kiss, I remember it was intense. Josh Jackson, I remember it was the only time he came into work when he didn\u2019t have to work. I\u2019m glad we did it and it was part of history.\u201d<\/p>\n
