According to a 2006 People<\/a><\/em> profile of Donald and Melania\u2019s \u201cBillion-Dollar Boy,\u201d Barron Trump, DeGeneres gave the future President and First Lady a gilded stroller:<\/p>\n

DeGeneres stoked outrage this month<\/a> by yukking it up with Bush at a Dallas Cowboys-Green Bay Packers game on October 6. A couple<\/a> of days later, she defended herself on her self-named talk show, saying, \u201cI\u2019m friends with George Bush. In fact, I\u2019m friends with a lot of people who don\u2019t share the same beliefs that I have. We\u2019re all different. And I think we\u2019ve forgotten that that\u2019s OK that we\u2019re all different. \u2026 When I say be kind to one another, I don\u2019t mean only the people that think the same way as you do. I mean be kind to everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

But her justification didn\u2019t sit well those who remembered Bush\u2019s anti-LGBTQ politics<\/a> and his role in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Even other Hollywood celebs decried DeGeneres\u2019 stance. \u201cSorry, until George W. Bush is brought to justice for the crimes of the Iraq War, (including American-lead torture, Iraqi deaths & displacement, and the deep scars\u2014emotional & otherwise\u2014inflicted on our military that served his folly), we can\u2019t even begin to talk about kindness,\u201d Mark Ruffalo tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tech creative Rafael Shimunov created a satirical version of DeGeneres\u2019 on-air monologue<\/a>, superimposing images of the Iraq War on the Ellen set\u2019s backdrop. He later crafted another version<\/a>, this one showing scenes of devastation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.<\/p>\n

For what it\u2019s worth, DeGeneres seems not to be friendly with Trump these days. In 2017, she revealed on Today<\/em><\/a> that she would never host the current POTUS on her talk show. \u201cNo, because I\u2019m not going to change his mind,\u201d she said. \u201cHe\u2019s against everything that I stand for. We need to look at someone else who looks different than us and believes in something that we don\u2019t believe in and still accept them and still let them have their rights.\u201d<\/p>\n
