Uganda is Reintroducing its \u2018Kill the Gays\u2019 Bill<\/b><\/p>\n

Ugandan<\/a> lawmakers have announced plans to resurrect its \u201ckill the gays<\/a>\u201d bill which mandates the death penalty for homosexuality. The bill, which has the support of President Yoweri Museveni, is expected to be introduced and voted on by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Reuters reports<\/a>: \u2018The bill \u2013 colloquially known as \u201cKill the Gays\u201d in Uganda \u2013 was nullified five years ago on a technicality and the government said it plans to resurrect it within weeks. \u201cHomosexuality is not natural to Ugandans, but there has been a massive recruitment by gay<\/a> people in schools, and especially among the youth, where they are promoting the falsehood that people are born like that,\u201d Ethics and Integrity Minister Simon Lokodo told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.\u2019<\/p>\n

Added Lokodo: \u201cOur current penal law is limited. It only criminalises the act. We want it made clear that anyone who is even involved in promotion and recruitment has to be criminalised. Those that do grave acts will be given the death sentence.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2015, Museveni said the \u201ckill the gays<\/a>\u201d bill, which was thrown out by the Constitutional Court of Uganda in 2014,\u00a0over a technicality, was \u201cnot necessary\u201d because British penal codes outlawing homosexuality are\u00a0already on the country\u2019s books.<\/p>\n
