Once upon a time Vin and I had started a roleplay world inspired by Jim Henson’s Labyrinth; in particular what happened AFTERWARDS. We’ve decided to create the characters that inhabited this world of the Underground and its King/Queendoms, and bring them to life. It all started with Jareth and Sarah’s children and their epic love stories…and it has epically continued on and on through the generations.
What this world means to Vin and me…it is more than words can say. We put our souls into this world and what it represents. But it is our pleasure and excitement to be able to bring them to life.

There were many shenaniganators in the world of the Underground throughout the years…but few had the mirth and random hilarity that Sora and Nico had together. They also happen to be two of our absolute favorite characters!
Nico Leonardt (eventual Phoenix) was part of the “Gorgeous Trio:” three best friends who were the most popular and desired young men of their time. Nico got some of the best of both his fathers: Aric’s fierce protectiveness, devotion to loved ones, and healing abilities and Cormack’s light-heartedness and passion for life.
Sora Phoenix had always been an odd little bean who was proud of it! He always had a smile on his face and loved his family and his people. It spoke volumes that he was so well-loved as the future King of the Phoenix that people knew him as “Sora” not “Your Highness.” They still did that even when he became King years later; something Sora was absolutely okay with!
Yet Sora had a dark secret behind all those smiles and cheerful laughs. He was a victim of bullying and sexual abuse from a couple of peers; something Nico discovered completely by accident. But once the Lion was made aware, Sora’s life began to change for the better as he learned to stand up for himself and got the help he needed. Eventually his abusers were brought to justice and Sora was able to move on…with Nico’s help of course!
Nico and Sora had found their chemistry to be rather explosive even on their first evening getting reacquainted again. What had started off as a joke quickly turned into something much more and the boys found themselves falling for each other hard and fast. It didn’t take much to realize they were perfect for each other.
It was not uncommon to be wandering the Phoenix capital and see King Sora and Prince Nicolas Phoenix in line for sushi or at the beach going clam hunting! Though their favorite place was the chicken restaurant which specialized in a super spicy dish (Sora’s favorite) known as “Lava Chicken” and the secret (and spicier) “Death Chicken;” both of which Sora could eat without batting an eye. This, of course, always horrified Nico (who could barely eat Lava Chicken) but he playfully promised to heal all of Sora’s future ulcers.
…though nothing beat the time that Sora declared he wanted spicy sushi with wasabi covered in lava chicken sauce (which he DID do and made Nico watch as he ate it)….but when Sora suggested what if he’d chosen death sauce instead?:

N: “Disowned! I don’t know you anymore…you’re going down a path that I cannot follow. Nope. Nope. Nope.”
S: “You can’t disown me! I’m your husband! You’d have to divorce me first… THEN disown me…” (since they were distantly related) “…And you remember that you did that when you have to sleep in a cold, hard Lion bed without me!”
N: “Well when you put it that way that just sounds like too much trouble. Okay fine. I’ll keep you.”

About the photographs.

This photo was taken near the end of the parade march through the city centre. It was shot coming out of Baldwin Street and turning into Anchor Road.

I was trying to do a photojournalism and documentary kind of photography of the parade through the city from the start to the finish. I went back and forth alongside the parade, trying to find interesting shots, and I noticed them.

It looks to me that this guy with the drum is part of a marching band, he plays on the drums, along with the other drummers around him.

I think the girl next to him, is just marching along, or could be a friend of his. It looks like he let her have a go doing the drumming.

Why did I give those shots the title of The Little Drummer Girl?

Well, normally I prefer to use filenames, that way, should I want to re-edit the shots, I can always find the files, but most groups tend to want photos posted to the groups to have a title, not filename.

When trying to think of a title, I was thinking “girl” and “drumming” then somehow, I remembered a John le Carre spy novel titled The Little Drummer Girl. (I watched the movie adaptation, and have not yet read the book.)

So I thought why not.

About the event.

Bristol Pride is an annual festival held over couple of weeks, promoting equality for the various LGBT+ people, with a march through the city at a weekend.

The Bristol Pride started life in 1977 as a fundraiser for the local LGBT community, and evolved into an annual event held every year. There was a gap of only some years between 1994 to 2010 when it was restarted.

The 2022 march started at Castle Park, near Castle Street. The route took them past Cabot Circus, and went around the major shopping area by using The Horsefair and Union Street, and as they went down Union Street, they headed towards Castle Park. When they reached Castle Park, they turned into Wine Street, went into High Street, and into Baldwin Street, headed towards the A38 which is Anchor Road. This route took them into Canon’s Road, and ended up near the Bristol Aquarium.

The march was said to take about an hour, but as a photographer whom would go back and forth, up and down the line, looking for good shots, it took me at least a couple of hours to complete the route.

After the march, those whom bought tickets, can attend an evening musical festival at The Downs, approximately to the north-west of city centre. I did not attend this event, and by the time I got back to my friend’s home, I was worn out from the heat.
