Quadro de colaboradores do Senado conta, pela primeira vez, com mulheres trans. Pela primeira vez em sua história, o Senado conta com duas mulheres trans entre seus colaboradores.
Elas estão no serviço de copa e, apesar de serem vagas temporárias, a ocupação desses espaços é visto por elas como um avanço, já que a realidade é de dificuldades que começam na escola e continuam na vida adulta. De acordo com a Associação Nacional de Travestis e Transexuais (Antra), apenas 4% das pessoas trans e travestis conseguem uma vaga de emprego formal no Brasil.
O combate à discriminação e a proteção aos direitos LGBTQIA+ estão presentes em muitos dos projetos analisados e votados pelos senadores e, também, em decisões internas do Senado Federal que são importantes na busca por uma administração pública livre de preconceitos e enriquecida pela diversidade.
Andy Amazonas e Scarlety Pereira estão no serviço de copa em vagas temporárias, mas as duas já fizeram história: são as primeiras mulheres trans a trabalhar no Senado. Para Scarlety Pereira, a ocupação desse espaço é importante porque abre caminhos a quem enfrenta dificuldades a vida toda:
(Scarlety Pereira) :”Mais apoio às cotas de emprego, que é uma maneira eficaz de combater a discriminação e promove a diversidade no local de trabalho. Então, que tenham mais Scarlet, mais Indies, mais Maria Luisa dentro do Senado, não só em uma cobertura de férias, mas com um trabalho mais extenso, uma garantia. Somos tirada da escola, não temos a oportunidade de trabalhar, de estudar. Às vezes, tiram até o nosso direito de viver. Brasil é o país que mais mata mulheres e homens trans no mundo. Então, estar aqui ocupando esse lugar, mesmo que seja temporário, nos dá uma esperança de que algo novo venha e de que várias oportunidades serão direcionadas a todas nós, a comunidade trans.”

About this photographs.
Those two photographs were taken in Quay Street very near the junction with Small Street in Bristol.
This guy on the motor bike was just parked there, not doing anything much, I think maybe just checking mobile phone or just hanging about.
When the transgenders protest group were coming, he didn’t even move out of the way, and they just simply walked past him, so he ended up in the middle of the protest.
The protest is in respond to the Scottish Supreme Courts ruling that the meaning of sex is defined as registered sex at birth, so many transgenders, along with the support from the LGBT community, took to the streets in protest. It was happening all around the United Kingdom, and I heard there was one planned for Bristol, so I drove there to do photojournalism of the event.
The photos were shot in colour, then converted into black and white while in Adobe Lightroom, and the side-by-side image was created using Adobe Photoshop.
