See You Soon

It was before the break of dawn when my alarm sounded and I unwillingly dragged myself from the warmth and comfort of my warm bed where my husband lay asleep. He’d been hardly bothered by my alarm; the lucky bastard. He’d already tuned it out as he did every morning as I struggled to turn off the offensively blaring sound. I went about my usual routine: toilet, shower, coffee (which was already preset to brew while I showered), then set up the coffee maker and timer again for my husband’s coffee to brew at his preferred wake up time, and a bagel with cream cheese to eat for breakfast before I would get dressed for the day.
The sun was just peeking through the mountains and filtering through the window when I made it back to our bedroom…only to find my husband rolled over and curled up right where I was sleeping just twenty minutes before. He’d even dragged his plushies closer and spread it all out! He is such a bed-hog but I love him all the same.
It didn’t take me very long to get dressed and ready. I was running well on time and might even be able to take the longer, scenic route to work to see all the fresh snow covering the mountain range. As I went to grab my phone off the charger, I heard a quiet, sleepy voice speak to me from under the blankets, “Be safe.”
I smiled softly and gazed down at the lump under the blanket that was my husband. I sat down on the edge of the bed and he tugged the blankets down to gaze at me with a sleepy smile. I returned the smile and reached out to take his hand, kissing the inside of his wrist then his palm affectionately. “I will. See you soon.” He gave my hand a small squeeze then rolled back over onto his side and curled up with my pillow and mumbled, “See you soon.” I chuckled softly and added, “Love you, Babe.” “You too…” he mumbled, already a breath from passing back out.
I shook my head with a knowing smile before standing and gently tucking him into the bed with one of his unicorn plushies. I found it rather sweet that he woke up just for that small, intimate moment together. Leaving him to enjoy the rest of his slumber, I made my out to start my day with a smile on my face.
