What To Watch On TV This Week: ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ ‘Kingdom’ Return
Check out our weekly guide to TV this week, and make sure you’re catching the big premieres, crucial episodes and the stuff you won’t admit you watch when no one’s looking.
— Get a glimpse at the future stars of Sia’s music videos when So You Think You Can Dance kicks off its next season searching for performers ages 8-13. Joining the judging panel (which already boasts Paula Abdul doing our second favorite work after Hey Paula) is Dance Moms superstar Maddie Ziegler. Auditions begin tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern on Fox.
— SNL-alums Martin Short and Maya Rudolph try to resuscitate the variety genre following a failed attempt by Neil Patrick Harris last fall (and Rudolph’s last luke-warmly received special). Maya and Marty premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. on NBC with music, sketches and special guests. Despite the variety format’s recent rocky road, we have high hopes.
— Ripped Grindr torsos come to life and do tricks on American Ninja Warrior, returning Wednesday at 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC. I like to watch it with an oxygen tank handy, but you might enjoy ogling competitors with a glass of pinot grigio.
— If you want your beefcake with a side of drama, tune in for the second half of Kingdom’s sophomore season Wednesday at 9 p.m. Eastern on Audience. The MMA drama stars the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Frank Grillo along with hunky crooner Nick Jonas playing a closeted fighter.
— TLC takes two looks at transgender youths in specials Transgender Kids and Transgender Kids Camp, starting at 8 p.m. Eastern Wednesday.
