Christophe Canato: Principles of Uncertainty
AlasdairFoster posted a photo:
For Christophe Canato uncertainty is a creative principle. It animates the concepts within his work. Rather than illustrating an idea, his images propose a paradox, setting incompatible associations and emotions within a single image: innocence and maturity, vulnerability and strength, persecution and pride… The image becomes the site of a conversation between the artist and the viewer. That artists raise questions rather than proposing answers is frequently true. But in the case of Christophe Canato’s work, those questions lead the viewer to explore more questions. They expand the field of awareness simply by denying easy resolution. They become sites of ongoing reflection, sharpening the mind by denying the comfort of certainty.
Christophe Canato shares insights into the making of his work at Talking Pictures.
