5 Reasons Why Repealing ACA is Terrible for the LGBTQ Community
Before the ACA was passed LGBTQ people had some of the lowest rates of coverage in the nation. Now, many LGBTQ people have health insurance for the first time – ever. If the ACA goes away coverage for millions of LGBTQ people will too— making health care an expensive luxury that too many in our community just can’t afford.
THE NYC WEDDING SURPRISE | Max Emerson, trivago and Queerty
(queerty.com) Some guys have all the luck. John and Michael got engaged as they marched in last year’s New York City Pride with their contingent of Flaggots, the flamboyant color guard marching band, drawing “awwws” and tears of joy from onlookers and participants alike. The video of the engagement went viral.
Their actual June wedding this year was even more inspiring. Social media star Max Emerson, who of course strips off his shirt in glee, the Trivago Guy and the Flaggots (again) surprise them with a full flag salute, dance routine and a dream honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta and Key West, compliments of trivago.

ABC Broadcast Journalist Robin Roberts was presented with HRC’s Visibility Award by her sister at the 2017 HRC Louisiana Gala.
The HRC Visibility Award recognizes the outstanding efforts of those who use their talent and visibility to help better the lives of LGBTQ people. A two-time cancer survivor, Roberts courageously came out publicly in 2013. She has consistently given a public voice to challenges LGBTQ people face. In a recent episode of “Good Morning America” previewing a special ABC News report on abusive gay “conversion” camps, Roberts talked about her Christian parents and how thankful she was for their support. “No one was more religious than my parents,” she said. “I’m so grateful, especially after seeing this, how supportive they were of me as a gaywoman and my family and friends and I’ll never forget my mother saying, ‘God loves you because of who He is not because of anything you do or don’t do.’” www.HRC.org
Spice Girl Geri on her new charity single and kissing Kylie Minogue
Ginger Spice Geri Horner (formally Halliwell) is back with new music, and is as bubbly (and talkative) as ever in an exclusive interview with Gay Star News.
The safety of LGBTQ people — and others disproportionately targeted by hate — requires the adoption of common-sense gun safety measures, including limiting access to assault-style rifles, expanding background checks, and limiting the ability for suspected terrorists, and those with a history of domestic abuse to access guns. The urgency to combat hate and violence in all its forms was made tragically clear yet again this week, after our nation was rocked by at least three mass shootings on Wednesday, including one that injured a Republican Member of Congress, U.S. Capitol Police officers and others.
Now as always, we must stand united in support of justice and equality, and show the world that we are stronger than hate and fear.
To celebrate the release of Academy Award winning film Moonlight (on Blu-ray & DVD 19 June) Gay Star News brings you an exclusive behind the scenes featurette ‘”Cruel Beauty”.
