From Drab to Drag

In 5 easy stages

I was born under a wandrin’ star
Mud can make you prisoner, and the plains can bake you dry
Snow can burn your eyes, but only people make you cry
Home is made for comin’ from, for dreams of goin’ to
Which with any luck will never come true
I was born under a wandrin’ star

Boy with a Pearl Earring

“There is something about the painting Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer that just captures my attention. Her gaze is very demanding. It is subtle yet very strong. Curious and certain. Confident and a bit shy. There is a duality, or two sides, to this painting and I think that perfectly matches my inner and outer self. Makes you want to know a little more. In the painting she wears a turban. And for my interpretation of the painting I decided that I can wear my own traditional headwear that is known by many Black people—the satin sleeping bonnet.” — Darius
