REVIEW: Stikki Nikki ice cream stockholm

Stikki Nikki is a small ice-cream shop located on the picturesque square Maria on the island of Södermalm in Stockholm.

It’s organic, Italian-style ice-cream and it’s really good.

There’s not a huge range of flavors (which is a good indication that the ice-cream is freshly made) – I opted for the burnt butter flavor and it was spectacular.

Exactly what I was looking for on a sunny day in the capital of Stockholm.

Watch What Happens When Two Guys Hold Hands on the Streets of Jerusalem: VIDEO

Watch What Happens When Two Guys Hold Hands on the Streets of Jerusalem: VIDEO

jerusalem

With the city of Jerusalem in the news following the anti-gay attack at a July 30 gay pride parade, two guys decided to emulate the hand-holding social experiment that recently took place in Ukraine and Russia and see how people on the streets reacted to same-sex PDA.

Sadly, a good number of the bystander comments shown in the footage were ugly and abusive.

Trans woman murdered in Detroit

Trans woman murdered in Detroit

Activists and local media are reporting the murder of Amber Monroe, a Detroit transgender woman.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, the 20-year-old Wayne State University student was last seen at 6 Mile and Woodward, a well-known area to the local trans community.

‘A lot of transgendered women go out there and don’t have support systems or employment,’ transgender rights activist Julisa Abad said to Fox 2. ‘So they are forced to do whatever they can do to survive,’ Abad continued, who knew Monroe.

Police say Monroe was employed as a sex worker when her body was discovered yesterday, 8 August, morning.

‘She’s been shot 2 or 3 times,’ Abad said. ‘But this time she didn’t make it. I’ve witnessed people pushed out of cars, shot, robbed – not a good environment at all.’

Equality Michigan, an activist organization, posted the following statement on its Facebook page:

‘We have no idea yet whether this attack was fueled by transphobia, but we do know that Amber’s murder is the 12th murder of a transgender woman in the United States this year, and the 10th murder of a transgender woman of color. Transgender women, and especially transgender women of color, are disproportionately affected by violence.’

Mr. Gay World 2010 Charl van den Berg Dead at 33

Mr. Gay World 2010 Charl van den Berg Dead at 33

van den bergCharl van den Berg, who in 2010 won the Mr. Gay World competition in Oslo, Norway, has died at the age of 33 from a short battle with lymphatic cancer.

Announcing van den Berg’s death, Mr. Gay World competition organizers wrote “We have lost a member of our family, a hero and a friend. Charl van den Berg will always be an icon to many around the world.”

More from the statement:

Throughout his reign, Charl continued to uphold the ethos and message of Mr. Gay World wherever he travelled, making friends around the world. He attended Prides in Europe, representing the organisation and was sent to the Philippines to lay the foundations of the next competition in Manila, meeting with press and organisers. He was prominently featured in the media, and did many interviews for television, living up to his role as ambassador for LGBT rights and a role model for LGBT youth.

He was loved not only in the Philippines, taking part in the Red Ribbon HIV-awareness campaign in that country, but all around the world and especially in his home country of South Africa, where his win was the first positive LGBT news other than legal challenges to discriminatory laws to be featured on the front pages and lamp posts around that country.

Charl always conducted himself in a friendly, approachable and exemplary fashion, keeping his feet firmly on the ground and doing the job he was chosen for without airs and graces. His infectious laughter and warm character made him an absolute pleasure to work with. He stayed on to assist and support the organisation long after his reign, attending subsequent finals in Johannesburg and Antwerp and being involved in the local Mr. Gay South Africa competition up to 2014.

Our thoughts go out to van den Berg’s friends and family.

Scott Walker Says He ‘Wouldn’t Change’ Military’s Transgender Service Ban as President: VIDEO

Scott Walker

Jeb Bush might be “fine” with transgender people serving openly in the military (as long as it doesn’t affect morale), but Scott Walker is trying to stake out a more hardline social conservative stance this election.

Asked by Newsmax host J.D. Hayworth what his position on transgender (and gays and lesbians) serving in armed forces, Walker responded that he “wouldn’t change” the military’s policy and would instead focus on giving the military the “resources” needed to win wars.

Gay Fox News Contributor Blasts Fight Against Anti-gay Christian Bakers: ‘That’s Not What Real Freedom Looks Like’

Gay Fox News Contributor Blasts Fight Against Anti-gay Christian Bakers: ‘That’s Not What Real Freedom Looks Like’

benson2

Openly gay Fox News contributor and Townhall.com editor Guy Benson had some things to say about the modern-day gay rights movement while at Erick Erickson’s RedState conservative gathering on Saturday.

Benson, who came out as gay in a footnote in his new book End of Discussion: How the Left’s Outrage Industry Shuts Down Debate, Manipulates Voters, and Makes America Less Free (and Fun), condemned the fight against Christian-run businesses who refuse to serve same-sex couples for religious reasons.

“One of the reasons we think the gay rights movement has been successful in really shifting public opinion massively on the question of same-sex marriage is they’ve made lots of appeals to sort of Americans’ libertarian sense of fairness. Live and let live. Our marriage doesn’t affect you. Lets be fair. And people were like “Yeah, that’s reasonable.” What made us concerned is how it seems like as soon as they have the upper hand in political opinion, public opinion all of the sudden the rules change. It was no longer live and let live. It was, bake us a cake or else. Celebrate us – it’s mandatory – or we’re going to destroy you. And that’s not what real freedom looks like.”

Benson’s End of Discussion co-author Mary Katharine Ham was also on stage during the talk and revealed the decision to write the book came about after watching the Brendan Eich controversy back in 2014.

At the time that Brendan Eich was found out for this thought crime [supporting Proposition 8], it was enough to make him lose his job. He was hounded out of his job not because he treated anyone badly in the workplace or discriminating against anyone…And we said hey, if you can’t hold a mainstream opinion, political opinion in American society with which the Left and its activists disagree and also hold your job, how free is your speech?

Our own Ari Ezra Waldman had a different take on the Eich controversy, which you can read here: “The Fall of Brendan Eich Happened Without Us.”
