Gender-Neutral Title 'Mx' Added to Oxford English Dictionary

The Oxford English Dictionary announced today that the title Mx (a gender neutral form of Mr., Ms., Mrs., or Miss) has been inducted into its official lexicon. Its addition is intended to reflect “today’s more thoughtful conversations about gender identity.” The definition reads:

German LGBTI activists under fire after homphobic couple lose their jobs

A German LGBTI activist group is facing criticism for highlighting a couple’s homophobic Facebook posts, causing them to lose their jobs.

Enough is Enough – Open your mouth!, one of Germany’s biggest networks of LGBTI activists, posted screenshots of comments Sara Kubicki and her boyfriend made in an open Facebook group.

‘Homosexual people should be killed. It’s so digusting,’ Kubicki wrote; the activists discovered the post and encouraged their community to report Kubicki to Facebook.

The group also filed charges of demagoguery against the trainee geriatric nurse and contacted her employer, a nursing service that is part of the Senterra AG; Kubicki was dismissed without notice.

Her boyfriend, Max Hellmann, also posted homophobic and racist content on the social network, with one of his comments reading: ‘I keep a tally of my murders as if I was Adolf Hitler, I bash children and gays and I don’t give a shit of what you think about me, I think my behavior should be celebrated.’

After being alerted to what their employee posted, Hellmann’s employer – Zalando – terminated his contract three weeks after he started a trainee program.

Now the group is facing increasing criticism from politicians and the public.

‘Lesbians and gay men have had to live with openly expressed hatred, insults and even murder threats from social networks for a long time,’ said Johannes Kahrs, the German Social Democratic Party’s representative for lesbians and gay men.

‘We, as a society, are required to find ways to deal with such tendencies. A witch hunt by private activists, including the publication of offenders’ names, as it recently was revealed to a broader public, cannot be the right answer.’

But Kahrs also criticized Facebook, saying it was incomprehensible why hate speech is not, or only half-heartedly, deleted although the social network’s terms and conditions explicitly ban them.

Donald Trump Stumbles Through Explaining His Opposition To Gay Marriage

Ugh. Donald Trump.

The billionaire reality TV star/2016 Republican presidential hopeless was recently asked what he would tell a child who asked him about his opposition to gay marriage. Trump’s response: Just ignore the question!

In an interview with Bloomberg, Trump was asked: “If you had a son or daughter or grandchild who was gay or lesbian, how would you explain to them your opposition to same-sex marriage?”

Without missing a beat, Trump replied, “Well, it’s the way it is. I wouldn’t speak to them at all about it, other than they are who they are and I want them to be happy and I will love them and I will cherish them.”

“I’ve gone to gay weddings,” he continued. “I’ve been at gay weddings. I have been against it from the standpoint of Bible, from the standpoint of my teachings as growing up and going to Sunday school and going to church and I’ve been opposed to it.”

Ah, yes. The old “But I’m not a homophobe, my best friend is gay!” excuse. Honestly, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the Donald.

“We’ll just see how it all comes out,” he concluded, “but if I was ever in that position I’d just have to explain it.”

In the past, Trump has said he opposed gay marriage because he “just don’t feel good about it,” but recently he declared the issue officially “dead.”

Kinda like his chances of ever becoming president.

Le1f is Feeling Really ‘Koi’ in Hallucinatory New Video: WATCH

The first single from Le1f’s forthcoming album Riot Boi is called “Koi” and it’s produced by electronic music artist SOPHIE (aka Samuel Long) who you’ll know from his hits “Bipp” and “Lemonade“, known for sculpting his bubbly, fun sounds on a computer. SOPHIE provides backing vocals.

It’s a brilliant collaboration. On the track Le1f sings about rejecting a guy’s advances in a club. In the clip, directed by Simon Ward, Le1f raps through a hallucinatory landscape with a back-up crew and a group of confused-looking male models.

Co-starring a brightly-colored school of koi, a set of oversized bubbles, and a giant set of pink sequined lips.

Women Explain Why It’s Not On Them To Stop Street Harassment

“I don’t dress for a guy.”

“I don’t dress for a girl.”

“I don’t dress to make somebody else happy.”

That’s how a new video about street harassment and personal style begins. Created by anti-street harassment organization Hollaback! and fashion company ModCloth, the video features eleven women discussing why no one should ever censor their style to feel safe on the streets. 

“I don’t dress to get your attention,” one woman says, with another adding, “Or to make you smile.”

Internationally, 70 to 90 percent of women experience street harassment in their lifetimes. That means that catcallers need to change their behaviors, not women. 

As one woman says: “It’s not my job to change.”

Former archbishop dies ahead of standing in Vatican’s first child abuse trial

A former Polish archbishop due to go on trial for child sex offences has died overnight, a Vatican source has announced.

Jozef Wesolowski was found dead in the early hours of the morning of 28 August; he is thought to have died of natural causes.

He was accused of sexually abusing an undisclosed number of boys, all of whom are presumed to be between 13 and 16 years old, with at least one case of abuse taking place in public.

According to the Vatican, the former envoy to the Dominican Republic was also accused of owning child porn; he was ordered by the papal state to stand trial in June 2015.

After Dominican media reported in 2013 how Wesolowski would dress casually and visit a beachfront area frequented by child prostitutes, which led to a police investigation, the former archbishop was recalled to Rome.

Upon his return he was stripped of all his duties and, in 2014, put under modified house arrest.

As a reaction to the growing number of priests being accused of sexually abusing children in their care, Pope Francis had promised a zero-tolerance approach to such accusations and rewrote Church rules to allow Wesolowski’s trial to take place.

Wesolowski’s case would have been the first of its kind, and involving a high-ranking Catholic official, to be brought before a Vatican court.
