Festival favorite documentary Quiet Heroes airs this Thursday on Logo. The doc follows Dr. Kristen Reis, the first doctor in the state of Utah to treat patients diagnosed with HIV and AIDs. Reis and her partner Maggie Snyder worked against the stigma of conservative Utah at the time, and provided both medical care and a safe space to their patients, many of whom were ostracized by their own families. The film seeks to shed light on Reis, Snyder, their practice, and how many lives they touched. Quiet Heroes: Thursday, 8pm on Logo.

On Friday, HBO’s VICE will air an episode that follows the ongoing fight for transgender rights in Texas. Last season, VICE investigated the complicated lives of trans kids and their families as they navigate decisions over medical transitions and how best to support their children’s identity. A year later, life for transgender Americans has become more uncertain as politicians dismantle key federal and state protections and introduce a slew of anti-LGBT bills. VICE correspondent Gianna Toboni returns to Texas to see how the transgender community there is fighting to win acceptance and protection. VICE: Trans in Texas: 7:30pm, Friday on HBO.

Fiancee: Aaron Hernandez ‘Was Very Much a Man to Me. I Saw No Indication He Was Gay’

Fiancee: Aaron Hernandez ‘Was Very Much a Man to Me. I Saw No Indication He Was Gay’

Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, the fiancee of the late NFL player Aaron Hernandez, who was convicted of murdering Odin Lloyd in 2013 and killed himself in his prison cell in 2017, writes about rumors he was gay in the foreword to a new book written by defense attorney Jose Baez.

Wrote Jenkins-Hernandez, via the Boston Herald: “There has been much speculation about Aaron’s sexuality since his death. I can say this: Aaron was very much a man to me. I saw no indication that he was gay or homosexual. I wish I had known how he felt, just so we could have talked about it. I wouldn’t have disowned him. I would have been supportive. I can’t fault him if he was feeling that way. When you love someone so much you just want to be there to support them. The fact that he felt he couldn’t come out to me or he couldn’t tell me these things hurts, because we had that bond. I’ve accepted that he may have been the way he was said to be, or that it may not be true. Regardless, I won’t know.”

In an Oxygen network special which aired in March, Aaron Hernandez Uncovered, defense attorney George Leontire said the former NFL player was tortured over the fact he was gay,

Said Leontire: “Aaron and I talked about his sexuality. This man clearly was gay. [He] acknowledged it. Acknowledged the immense pain that it caused him…I think that he also came out of a culture that was so negative about gay people that he exhibited some self-hatred.”

John Oliver opened his show with Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani’s astonishing assertion on Meet the Press on Sunday, that “truth isn’t truth.”

Giuliani made the remarks to Chuck Todd who was asking if the president was going to testify in the Mueller probe.

Said Giuliani: “I’m not going to be rushed into having him testify so he gets trapped into perjury. And when you tell me that he should testify because he’s going to tell the truth and he shouldn’t worry, well that’s so silly because that’s somebody’s version of the truth, not the truth.”

Replied Todd: “Truth is truth.”

No it isn’t,” Giuliani snapped back. “Truth isn’t truth.”

“Don’t do this to me,” protested Giuliani when Todd called him on the ridiculous statement.

Quipped Oliver: “You just said ‘truth isn’t truth!’ That is not acceptable from a president’s lawyer. It’s barely acceptable from a sophomore philosophy major who just tried Molly for the first time. ‘Truth isn’t truth, man and toes are just feet fingers. I feel warm.’”

Added Oliver: “What is Giuliani doing? Why does the White House keep letting him go on TV? At this rate, Trump is going to end up behind bars with Giuliani visiting him and saying, ‘Don’t worry, Donald, prison isn’t prison.’”

Monday Morning Meltdown: Trump Explodes at ‘Democrat Thugs’ and ‘Discredited Bob Mueller’: a ‘National Disgrace!’
Trump thugs

Donald Trump’s Monday morning was just as wild and unhinged as the morning previous as he woke up swinging like a cornered animal at the Russia investigation, misspelling “counsel” for a second day.

Tweeted Trump: “Disgraced and discredited Bob Mueller and his whole group of Angry Democrat Thugs spent over 30 hours with the White House Councel, only with my approval, for purposes of transparency. Anybody needing that much time when they know there is no Russian Collusion is just someone……..looking for trouble. They are enjoying ruining people’s lives and REFUSE to look at the real corruption on the Democrat side – the lies, the firings, the deleted Emails and soooo much more! Mueller’s Angry Dems are looking to impact the election. They are a National Disgrace!”

Added Trump: “Where’s the Collusion? They made up a phony crime called Collusion, and when there was no Collusion they say there was Obstruction (of a phony crime that never existed). If you FIGHT BACK or say anything bad about the Rigged Witch Hunt, they scream Obstruction!”

Nob Hill Theatre, SF’s Iconic Gay Strip Club, Closes Today After 50 Years

The Nob Hill Theatre, San Francisco’s last gay strip club, closes its doors on Sunday, ending an era.

The SF Chronicle reports: ‘In many ways, Nob Hill Theatre, which closed Sunday, Aug. 19, after 50 years in business, was a relic, a holdover from a time when San Francisco was called the “Smut Capital of America,” when gay men had few safe places to meet, pornography was hard to come by and phones didn’t have touch-screens or dating apps. The theater’s slogan, “Touch Our Junk,” wasn’t an empty promise. But it’s also true that up until its very last day, Nob Hill Theatre was a living and vital space, one that people from around the world would come to visit, and one that even people who had never visited before told Steward they’d miss. Sometimes there’s a comfort in simply knowing something exists.“This is another nail in the coffin of gay San Francisco,” Steward said, just days before the closure. “It’s the end of an era.”’

KTVU adds: “Much of the ephemera has to be gone within a week, but Luce assured the GLBT Historical Society has come by to scoop up some of the gems inside. If the ’80s made gay bathhouses all but disappear from San Francisco due to the AIDS crisis, what’s contained within these walls (much of what is not appropriate to show on this platform) seems to have survived bygone eras. If you are interested in any of the wares, they will hold a garage sale on Sunday. Once you get past the free condoms (made available upon requirement), stamina pills, gay porn playing on the TV screen and freshly folded towels in the lobby, the main floor— referred to as “Fantasy Land,” contains a small 74-seat theater complete with a disco ball. The art-deco lighting fixtures remain in tact and a mirror strategically placed at eye level runs the entire length of the theatre to ensure maximum peering at what exactly your fellow clientele may be looking at. “
