PREPARING FOR HELL. Republicans circulate document of investigations Democrats plan to launch should they flip the House: “Thanks to their control of Congress, Republicans have blocked most of the Democrats’ investigative requests. But if the House flips, the GOP loses its power to stymie. Lawyers close to the White House tell me the Trump administration is nowhere near prepared for the investigatory onslaught that awaits them, and they consider it among the greatest threats to his presidency.”

PEARL. Blacklisted from RuPaul’s Drag Race. “Now, I was never dumb enough to think I would be invited back for All Stars, and I was definitely not gunning for it at all, but to openly punish me for being honest about a situation that happened with me after four years of silence is disgusting and shameful.”

The pictures, which were widely shared on social media, caused a stir. Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far-right National Rally party, shared a video of the performance on Twitter, adding “Help!” and the scream emoji. Politicians from the center-right party the Republicans mocked the display as unstatesmanlike.

FIRE ISLAND. 1968 raid on “meat rack” was birth of LGBTQ rights in New York: “The raid that began 50 years ago on August 25, 1968, set off a chain of events that helped pave the way for LGBTQ rights in New York state. U.S. OPEN. Two out women and no gay male players: “When action starts Monday. there will be two open lesbians competing: Alison van Uytvanck of Belgium, who plays Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine, and Johanna Larsson of Sweden, who plays Alize Cornet. Van Uytvanck, ranked 39, finished in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon, but she has never won a match at the U.S. Open…There has never been an out gay man competing in men’s professional tennis in the modern era and only one who has come out a gay after retiring, American Brian Vahaly.”

Karsyn Kelly: What is It Recently???

Karsyn Kelly: What is It Recently???

Do I have a booger hanging out of my nose? Food on my face or lipstick on my teeth? Lately I have been getting the longest stares when im out in public. Im wondering what it is that im doing that are the cause for these long gazes! Its the length of time where its not completely creepy/stalker like, but definitely longer then the normal “glance over” or quick second eye contact with a stranger. It falls right in between….a couple of my friends have mentioned it to me too that I get the weirdest/longest stares. Anyways, Just was wondering if anyone goes through similar semi-awkward glances or at least has ideas of the possible reasons? ORRRR I may be thinking way too much into this particular subject and somehow has formed a public insecurity of sorts. I also then become paranoid to where these people recognize me from being on Cam, am I supposed to feel embarrassed or flattered? I feel torn between the two. Anywho, just my thought of the day before I hit the hay! (hey look im suddenly a poet today too!!! haha) Hope everyone sleeps well and would love to hear from new friends!!!!XO Karsyn

HRC PRESIDENT CHAD GRIFFIN’S STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN: “Senator McCain was a patriot and a hero, whose life was defined by his service and sacrifice on behalf of our country. While we disagreed on many issues, later in his career, he became an increasingly vocal advocate for LGBTQ servicemembers. In the last few years, Senator McCain blocked anti-LGBTQ language in the National Defense Authorization Act, opposed a ‘license to discriminate’ bill in Arizona, denounced the Trump-Pence Administration’s effort to ban transgender troops and spoke out against the nomination of the anti-LGBTQ Mark Green to lead the Army. We join with millions of Americans in mourning his loss, and extend our deepest condolences to Senator McCain’s wife, Cindy, and his entire family.” More from HRC.

Trump Rejected White House Statement Honoring John McCain

Trump Rejected White House Statement Honoring John McCain

Donald Trump rejected an official White House statement honoring the late Senator John McCain (R-AZ), opting instead for a tweet that “did not include any kind words.” Trump has also apparently returned the White House flags to full staff.

The Washington Post reports: “Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Chief of Staff John F. Kelly and other White House aides advocated for an official statement that gave the decorated Vietnam War POW plaudits for his military and Senate service and called him a ‘hero,’ according to current and former White House aides, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive internal deliberations. The original statement was drafted before McCain died Saturday, and Sanders and others edited a final version this weekend that was ready for the president, the aides said. ”

My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!

Pope Francis: Gay Children ‘Have the Right to a Family, and the Family Not Throwing Them Out’

Pope Francis: Gay Children ‘Have the Right to a Family, and the Family Not Throwing Them Out’

Speaking in Ireland on Sunday following a Catholic family rally, Pope Francis responded to a question from reporters about how a parent should respond if their child comes out as gay.

Said the Pope, according to the AP: “There have always been gay people and people with homosexual tendencies…Don’t condemn. Dialogue. Understand, give the child space so he or she can express themselves…Ignoring child with this tendency shows a lack of motherhood and fatherhood….This child has the right to a family. And the family not throwing him out.”

The Pope is visiting Ireland on the first papal visit there since 1979, and the country now has a gay prime minister, Leo Varadkar.

The Washington Post reports: ‘In an interview with RTE news Friday, Varadkar said he hoped to talk to the pope about issues including clerical sex abuse and the exclusion of the LGBT community from the church. Varadkar had a brief meeting with the pope following his more public remarks Saturday. His spokesman told the Irish Times that he “said to the pope that there are huge numbers of people here who have faith in their heart but who feel excluded and alienated from the church because of what happened.”240

At least 4 people are dead and at least 11 people are injured after a mass shooting during a Madden 19 video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida. The shooting took place as the tournament was live-streaming online.

NBC News reports: ‘Three people were admitted to the Jacksonville Memorial Hospital and are in stable condition, according to a hospital spokesperson. The shooting appears to have occurred inside a pizza restaurant that includes a bar dedicated to video games and other forms of gaming. The bar was in the middle of hosting the Madden 19 Southeastern Qualifier Tournament, which comes with a $5,000 prize. Madden 19 is the latest NFL football video game put out by sports game publisher EA Sports.’

Variety adds: “The tournament, which was held at GLHF Game Bar in the Landing along the St. Johns River, was broadcast on Twitch. Multiple loud gunshots can be heard over footage of gamers playing “Madden NFL 19.” As the controller disconnects, audio can be heard of an attendee saying, “F—, what is he shooting with?” More shots are fired, and screaming can be heard in the background.”

#UniteForJustice: HRC Joins Day of Action to Stop Kavanaugh

#UniteForJustice: HRC Joins Day of Action to Stop Kavanaugh

HRC members and supporters across the country will join demonstrations on August 26 to raise their voices to stop the Senate from confirming Brett Kavanaugh to a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.

This day of action across the U.S. puts the spotlight on the grave threat that Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination presents to LGBTQ equality, reproductive rights and affordable health care. Handpicked by organizations like Focus on the Family, the Family Research Council, National Organization for Marriage and Breitbart, Kavanaugh’s nomination threatens the rights of LGBTQ people on many fronts.

St. Louis-based attorney Sarah Garber spoke with HRC ahead of the rally, where she will deliver remarks on behalf of other HRC members and supporters about the dangers posed by Kavanaugh’s nomination. Garber has been an HRC volunteer since 2012 and a member of HRC’s Board of Governors since 2014.

Why are you speaking out on Brett Kavanaugh?

As an attorney, I believe it is the role of our judiciary and, in particular, our Supreme Court to ensure that the rights of minority and marginalized communities aren’t trampled by the individual beliefs of others. With Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, there is a strong possibility that the country’s highest court will become a place where the ultra-conservative can come to have their personal beliefs enshrined into our nation’s jurisprudence in the areas of LGBTQ equality, reproductive rights and health care.

How will his nomination harm LGBTQ people?

A vast majority of the progress toward full equality for LGBTQ people in the last 20 years has come from the Supreme Court in cases like Romer v. Evans, Lawrence v. Texas, Windsor and Obergefell. With Kavanaugh on the bench, we not only have the threat of reversing course on rights that have already been established, but also the chance of devastating rulings on issues like whether transgender Americans can serve in the military and whether LGBTQ people are covered by non-discrimination laws in housing, employment, education and public spaces.

What should HRC members and supporters know and how can they get involved to stop his nomination to the Supreme Court?

Kavanaugh’s confirmation does not have to be a foregone conclusion. Get involved with organizations supporting the issues that matter to you. Contact your elected officials and urge them to reject this and all other nominees until this administration nominates someone who will not put their personal beliefs first and the rights of everyone else second. Lastly, as my favorite president once said, decisions are made by those who show up, so show up to the ballot box and make your voice heard with your vote.

The stakes with this nomination could not be higher. HRC calls on the U.S. Senate to fulfill its constitutional duty and reject this dangerous nominee. Text “Save SCOTUS” to 30644 to join us in this fight.
