Trump Blasts Michael Cohen for Cutting a Deal with Prosecutors ‘in Order to Embarrass Me’ – WATCH

In a softball interview with FOX News’ Harris Faulkner, Donald Trump lashed out at his former attorney Michael Cohen, saying Cohen should have known he was breaking the law because he’s a lawyer, didn’t really work for him as a lawyer and was in fact just a low-level PR guy, and only pleaded guilty to make Trump look bad.

Said Trump: “I hire usually good people…What [Cohen] did was all unrelated to me except for the two campaign finance charges that are not criminal and shouldn’t have been on there. They put that on to embarrass me….I never directed him to do anything wrong…Whatever he did, he did on his own…”

Added Trump: “He did some bad things: income tax evasion, I heard about taxi cab medallions, I heard about a lot of things. I’m not reading about any of that stuff, because what he did, he made a deal to embarrass me. In order to embarrass me, they cut his term down…How many people when they say ‘listen, if you embarrass the president of the United States, we will give you a deal. Your father-in-law, your wife, we’ll cut your jail.’ That’s all it is.It’s terrible system. It’s going on right now with General Flynn. The FBI says he didn’t lie.”

The interview also covered the Paris accord (“Because of that accord, the whole country is burning down.”), the GM layoffs, and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn (“He’s a tougher kind of a guy than Cohen”), the Fed and interest rates, trade with China, and taxpayer-funded settlement payments being paid to congressional staffers who accuse their bosses of harassment.

THE WALL. In memo, Department of Homeland Security Memo touts border wall construction that doesn’t exist: “Look, I think reasonable, objective observers can agree that Trump’s credibility evaporated quite a while ago. Much of the country realizes that the president has a strained relationship with reality, and his boasts are generally seen through that lens. But Americans still need to have some confidence in the Department of Homeland Security, so when it peddles Trump’s fiction as if it were fact, it’s undermining the credibility of an agency we’re supposed to be able to trust in the event of an emergency.” See the memo HERE.

TRUMP. I never directed Michael Cohen to break the law: “I never directed Michael Cohen to break the law. He was a lawyer and he is supposed to know the law. It is called “advice of counsel,” and a lawyer has great liability if a mistake is made. That is why they get paid. Despite that many campaign finance lawyers have strongly……….stated that I did nothing wrong with respect to campaign finance laws, if they even apply, because this was not campaign finance. Cohen was guilty on many charges unrelated to me, but he plead to two campaign charges which were not criminal and of which he probably was not…….guilty even on a civil basis. Those charges were just agreed to by him in order to embarrass the president and get a much reduced prison sentence, which he did-including the fact that his family was temporarily let off the hook. As a lawyer, Michael has great liability to me!”

ELLEN DEGENERES. Portia De Rossi wants Ellen to walk away from her lucrative daytime talk show.

IMPEACHMENT CONCERNS. Trump is privately fretting to friends: ‘Trump’s fear about the possibility has escalated as the consequences of federal investigations involving his associates and Democratic control of the House sink in, the sources said, and his allies believe maintaining the support of establishment Republicans he bucked to win election is now critical to saving his presidency.’

I DON’T REALLY CARE, DO U? Melania Trump reveals new blond hair.

TOM STEYER 2020. Billionaire posts job listings for potential campaign: ‘Steyer, a San Francisco–based billionaire and the Democratic donor behind the national “Need to Impeach” effort aimed at President Donald Trump, published the job openings under an anonymous account. The listing invites “highly skilled political professionals” to apply for key roles on a “national campaign team” for a “high-profile political campaign based on the West Coast.”‘

JULIAN CASTRO 2020Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro forms exploratory committee. “This gives Castro an early start for courting donors, potential campaign staffers and media attention. The 44-year-old former San Antonio mayor will have more time to build his name ID and brand, which is crucial if his fellow Texan Beto O’Rourke throws his hat in the ring, too.”

As a kid growing up on the west side of San Antonio, I never thought that I’d one day be making this announcement: t.co/2NAIFEsCFh I’m exploring a candidacy for President of the United States in 2020 to renew the promise of this country for all. t.co/9jOBdjHcLO

AUSTIN. Apple to build $1 billion campus in Texas: “Apple plans to build a 133-acre campus in Austin, Texas, that will cost $1 billion and employ 5,000 new workers, the company announced Thursday. The company says the move is expected to make it the largest private employer in Austin. Apple already employs more people in Austin, some 6,200 workers, than it does in any other city outside of its headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. The company now plans to add substantially to that figure.”

QUEER DANCE PARTY. Protesters dance outside Trump adviser Stephen Miller’s home:  ‘Activist group WERK for Peace organized the musical protest in opposition to Miller’s work on President Trump’s immigration policy, DCist reported. The event, dubbed “#WERKNotWalls,” is calling for better treatment of migrants and refugees at the southern border. Miller is “the architect behind the Muslim Ban and the architect behind the response to the migrant and refugee caravan that is currently making its way to the U.S.-Mexico border,” Firas Nasr, the founding organizer of WERK for Peace, told the outlet.’

JOHN W HALLETT. Judge resigns after complaint that he told an attorney to fellate Viggo Mortensen. ‘The judge allegedly responded the festival was “about the gayest thing I have ever heard.” The judge allegedly went on to say, “You and Viggo Mortensen should get a hotel room and suck each other’s d**ks.”‘

MODERN FAMILY. Jesse Tyler Ferguson reveals that it might not be over.

THE STRANGE ONES. Alex Pettyfer shows off his full moon.

LILY. Sesame Street reintroduces its first homeless muppet. ‘Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind “Sesame Street,” is reintroducing Lily as the first homeless character on the show in order to provide hope for those children that are currently without a home of their own. The story line was created as a new initiative, and part of the Sesame Street in Communities program, to alleviate the stigma around homelessness.’

Mika Brzezinski Under Fire for Using Homophobic Slur to Describe Mike Pompeo: WATCH

Morning Joe anchor Mika Brzezinski is under fire after using a homophobic slur to describe Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Said Brzezinski of Mike Pompeo’s disinterest in holding Saudi Arabia accountable for the murder of Jamal Khashoggi: “I understand that Donald Trump doesn’t care. But why doesn’t Mike Pompeo care right now? Are the pathetic deflections that we just heard when he appeared on Fox & Friends — is that a patriot speaking? Or a wannabe dictator’s butt-boy? I’m dead serious, I’m asking: are these the words of a patriot?”

Twitter immediately lit up after Brzezinski’s remarks, and she expressed regret for them, tweeting: ‘SUPER BAD choice of words .. I should have said “water boy”… like for football teams or something like that.. apologize to @SenatorDurbin too! SO SORRY!’

Totally agree with you -SUPER BAD choice of words .. I should have said “water boy”… like for football teams or something like that.. apologize to @SenatorDurbin too! SO SORRY! t.co/zIqsGdK3Tk

’29Rooms’ pop-up educates, empowers, and inspires with a social justice spotlight

’29Rooms’ pop-up educates, empowers, and inspires with a social justice spotlight

Refinery29, a digital media company dedicated to female empowerment, invited those in Los Angeles to #ExpandYourReality in a funhouse of culture, technology, and creativity. The downtown pop-up called 29Rooms showcases, you guessed it, 29 Instagram worthy art installation ‘rooms.’

The exhibit welcomed everyone, young and old alike. But in the spirit of my recent 21st birthday, what other choice did I have but to visit their other offering, Party After Dark, the late-night experience solely for adults. And so, with a peppermint cocktail in one hand and a camera in the other, I explored 29 thought-provoking rooms filled only with the aesthetic.

The exhibit collaborated with a host of brands and artists to create the most imaginative backdrops for your new Instagram post. From a bright full moon in the sky to neon galaxy jellyfish tentacles, guests had a list of backdrops to choose from. But this was more than a mere photo-op.

In line with Refinery29’s philosophy and mission, many rooms were dedicated to larger conversations about empowerment, inclusivity, and equality. GLAAD partnered up with 29Rooms to create Room 21, ‘A Different Tune.’ The room featured speakers, microphones, and a stage to welcome Trans Chorus of LA and Tonality, two local LA choirs who leverage music as a vehicle for self-expression and empowerment.

Additional social justice-minded rooms included, ACLU’s Room 10 which strove to educate the public on the rights of marginalized communities in a colorful game show themed room; TNT’s Room 8-9 that boldly displayed the statement “Hollywood can’t win without women;” and Unbothered’s Room 7 was dedicated to the black female experience and the celebration of a black woman’s hair. LGBTQ stars, Kesha and Lena Waithe also hosted their own rooms.

More experiential rooms encouraged guests to have a phone-free moment and step out of their comfort zone. One standout experience paired people with strangers and challenged them to answer intimate questions. Another guided guests through an ASMR sensory experience. There was also a room that led a painting workshop with a local LA artist.

But it was the late night party, and to catch the performance one had to visit during the day. Nonetheless, guests were not left bored. In the spirit of inclusivity and creativity, drag queens slayed and sashayed the night away at the bar to tunes like Little Mix’s “Touch” and Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda.” The sassy performance was then followed by a graceful interpretive dance and a fist-pumping DJ to close out the night.

As I walked down the red carpet stairs back to the parking lot with my friend, we scrolled through my phone to look through our photos. “These are cute!” I exclaimed. And while I am sure to bombard my Instagram with posts recapping the event, oddly enough, I am grateful that the highlights of my night weren’t captured—the best moments are phone-free.

Family Sues Walgreens for $525 Million, Says Security Killed Unarmed Man Because He Was Black and Gay

Family Sues Walgreens for $525 Million, Says Security Killed Unarmed Man Because He Was Black and Gay

The family of 21-year-old Jonathan Hart, who was shot in the back after allegedly shoplifting at a Walgreens at Sunset and Vine in Los Angeles on December 2, has filed a $525 million lawsuit against the company, saying the store’s security guard discriminated against Hart, who was unarmed, because he was black and gay, and responded with much greater force.

Patch reports: ‘An at emotional news conference, attorney Carl Douglas said Walgreens only has armed security guards at four stores in the Los Angeles area. “Each of these stores are in the black, brown and homeless and LGBT communities, and we want to know why,” Douglas said on behalf of Hart’s family.

Walgreens released a statement: “[We have] extended our deepest and most sincere condolences [to the Hart family]. [As a result of the shooting] we immediately terminated the security company. We are committed to providing a safe environment for our employees, patients and customers in the communities we serve. We contract for armed and unarmed security, as well as video surveillance, in our stores based on the public safety needs of each location. We operate in thousands of communities and neighborhoods across the nation and the suggestion that we would inappropriately serve any community is simply false. We firmly believe everyone should be welcomed and treated equally in all of our stores.”

Douglas insisted Hart was not shoplifting but said that “Hart and another black man were in the store, and at one point while inside the store, one of them picked up a $2.99 water flavoring product. The guard confronted the men and got into an argument with Hart.”

Douglas added: “The guard feels the man push him one time. The guard pushes the man back one time. The guard watches as the man turns to run toward the back door. The guard raises his gun and points at the man. The guard says, `Freeze,’ as the man travels toward the door. The guard fires one shot, striking the man in the back of the neck. The guard watches as the man crumbles to the ground.”

CBS News reported on yesterday’s news conference, but omitted any reference to Douglas’s charges that Hart was targeted because he was gay:

The L.A. Times reports: ‘Family attorney Carl Douglas also called on Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Jackie Lacey to file manslaughter charges against the guard who shot and killed Jonathan Hart on Dec. 2. … “Walgreens, the blood of Jonathan Hart is on your hands,” said Douglas, who called for a boycott of the company. The lawyer said Hart was profiled, harassed and ultimately shot because he was a homeless, gay, black man.’

Added Douglas: “Jonathan Hart was profiled because he was homeless. He was harassed because he was gay. And he was shot, because he was black.”
