‘Color Purple’ Actress Fired for Facebook Post Declaring ‘I Do Not Believe Homosexuality is Right’

‘Color Purple’ Actress Fired for Facebook Post Declaring ‘I Do Not Believe Homosexuality is Right’

Oluwaseyi Omooba, who was due to play the lead role of Celie in Leicester’s Curve and Birmingham Hippodrome’s co-production of the Broadway musical of The Color Purple, has been fired for remarks in an old Facebook post in which she said homosexuality is unnatural and not “right”.

Said producers: “Following careful reflection, it has been decided that Seyi will no longer be involved with the production. … The audition process, as ever, was conducted professionally and rigorously, led by an exceptional casting director with actors who are evaluated on what they present in the audition room. We do not operate a social media screening process in the casting of actors.”

The Facebook post was surfaced last week by Hamilton actor Aaron Lee Lambert, who tweeted: “@Seyiomooba Do you still stand by this post? Or are you happy to remain a hypocrite?”

Added Lambert: “Seeing as you’ve now been announced to be playing an LGBTQ character, I think you owe your LGBTQ peers an explanation. Immediately.”

Omooba is the daughter of anti-LGBTQ pastor Adegboyega Omooba who advocates for gay conversion therapy and was recently awarded an MBE.

iNews reports: ‘Pastor Omooba has been involved in a string of anti-LGBTQ+ campaigns over the course of his career, including a failed attempt to stop anti-discrimination legislation against gay people in 2006. The legislation tackled discrimination banning hotels from refusing bookings from same-sex couples. He also campaigned against same-sex marriage, saying equal unions “devalue the meaning of marriage itself.” The pastor’s organisation Christian Concern, have rallied against LGBTQ+ equality and identities since they were first formed in 2004.’

Ryan Murphy to host special performance of hit Broadway musical “The Prom” to benefit GLAAD and other LGBTQ organizations

Multiple GLAAD Media Award, Golden Globe, and Emmy Award-winning screenwriter, director, and producer, Ryan Murphy (Pose, Glee, American Horror Story, etc.), announced via Instagram that he will be hosting a special performance of the Broadway musical, The Prom, to benefit GLAAD, the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI), and the Trevor Project.

The Prom is a hilariously entertaining new Broadway musical that follows the fictional story of Emma, a high school student, who becomes an instant outcast, and a national headline, when her high school cancels the prom rather than let her attend with her girlfriend. Sensing a chance to correct an injustice, and maybe get some good publicity along the way, a group of fading celebrities takes up the cause, and invades Emma’s small Indiana town. But their attempts at social activism make the situation far worse than they, or Emma, could have ever imagined. Throughout the show, Emma and the celebrities share heartfelt messages around being LGBTQ, acceptance, and friendship. The show “provides upbeat acknowledgment of the capacity for open-mindedness among today’s youth even in churchy communities.”

The cast of The Prom famously performed during last year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC and brought the first televised same-sex kiss to the iconic celebration.

The cast includes Tony Award nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (Something Rotten!), Tony nominee Christopher Sieber (Shrek the Musical), and Tony winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone).

The Hollywood Reporter calls the show “an enjoyable, old-fashioned entertainment that provides a tonic for these bellicose times.”

The special showing of The Prom happens on Tuesday, April 9, at the Longacre Theatre in NYC. Check out more about The Prom here.

ISRAEL. Trump uses Twitter to unilaterally introduce new foreign policy on Israel.

After 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel’s Sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is of critical strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and Regional Stability!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 21, 2019

NARCISSISTIC WHINER. Trump is bent out of shape that he didn’t get a thank you for McCain’s funeral.

NEW ZEALAND. Prime minister bans military-style guns after mosque terror attacks: ‘Ardern said the sales ban was effective immediately to prevent stockpiling and would be followed by a complete ban on the weapons after new laws were rushed through. She said people could hand over their guns under an amnesty while officials develop a formal buyback scheme, which could cost up to 200 million New Zealand dollars ($140 million).’

HE-MAN. Noah Centineo will play the Masters of the Universe superhero in an upcoming film.

COOPERATING. Hope Hicks will turn over documents to the House Judiciary Committee: ‘The request included documents from “any personal or work diary, journal or other book containing notes, a record or a description of daily events” about Trump, the Trump campaign, the Trump Organization and the executive office of the President.’

DRAG QUEEN STORY TIME. We are suspending the program over fear for our safety. “What started as a fun community event shared between us, a couple of drag queens and kings, and a few families has become a national controversy. People are being threatened. People are being hurt.”

SCHITT’S CREEK. It’s returning!

WEST VIRGINIA. ACLU says school has refused to take bullying of transgender student by assistant principal seriously: “I refuse to allow the Board of Education and Assistant Principal Livengood to sweep what happened to me under the rug,” the student said. “Since the incident in the bathroom, I have seen little effort from the administration to create real change and ensure this never happens again. That is a slap in the face to me and unacceptable for all LGBTQ students in Harrison County.”

REPULSIVE. Devin Nunes defends protesters using N-word at civil rights icon John Lewis.

BREAKING: Video of Devin Nunes defending protestors who yelled the “n-word” at US Rep John Lewis: “I think people have every right to say what they want. If they wanna smear someone, they can do it.” Nunes is terrible. Dug up @TheDemCoalition. From 2010. pic.twitter.com/lk51mSSGW8

KELLYANNE CONWAY. “My husband also has been very critical of the president publicly, which is unlike him. He’s traditionally been a very private person. In 2016, which was known as the year of the tweet, George Conway sent exactly zero tweets. So this is new. And what also is new is not supporting the agenda of the president and my work there.”

BACK END. Beau Mirchoff’s furry buns.

NEVADA. Lawmakers consider ban on ‘gay panic’ defense: ‘The bill, SB 97, was introduced by the Senate Committee on Judiciary on behalf of the Nevada Youth Legislature and states that “alleged state of passion or provocation shall be deemed not to be objectively reasonable if it resulted from the discovery of, knowledge about or potential disclosure of the actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity or expression of the victim.”

CASTING OF THE DAY. For the first time every, the lead in Dear Evan Hansen is being played by a teen, 16-year-old Andrew Barth Feldman.

MACRO BUG OF THE DAY. Lucas the spider. “This colorful little Jumping Spider with the scientific name Parnaenus cyanidens lives in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. Jumping spiders, Salticidae are the largest family of spiders. They do not build a web to trap insects, but jump on their prey and grab it with the jaws. Jumping spiders still produce silk for safety lines as can be seen at 20″ in the video and also to build a tent as shelter from bad weather and to sleep at night. As most spiders they have four pairs of eyes, which give them a 360-degree view of the world. Their large frontal eyes are build like telescopes and provide them with very sharp vision. A mobile retina allows them to scan the object they are looking at.”

Giving Daddies A Bad Name?

Giving Daddies A Bad Name?

In our never-ending quest to understand how other people define the term Daddy, we bring you this interesting article “The fastest-growing ‘sugar baby’ UK universities revealed… but at what cost” sports.yahoo.com/half-million-uk-students-turning-sugar-daddy-we…, which takes a look at the “sugar baby” culture on UK campuses. All signs point to the economy and the ridiculous amount of debt college kids go off into the real world with as to why there’s been an uptick in young people, in this case women, looking for generous older men, Sugar Daddies, willing to pay them for their time.

Sugar Daddies have been around for as long as anyone can remember, gay or straight, but since the advent of the internet, facilitating these arrangements has become easier than ever. We are sometimes asked if the Daddyhunt community is about connecting guys with Sugar Daddies. The answer is NO, and we make a point of proactively removing users seeking financial arrangements from the Daddyhunt community.

But what we are wondering is, given the placement of this article in the mainstream media, do you think it further perpetuates the most common association with the word Daddy, that it has to be a sugary arrangement? As a community that celebrates Daddies and their admirers, whether they be a pauper or a prince, we’re of the mindset that the stigma surrounding Daddies and intergenerational relationships stems from this belief. It’s a misguided notion that the only reason why a younger man would want to be with an older man is because it’s transactional. As many of us on Daddyhunt can attest to, nothing could be further from the truth. #ExperienceMatters
