Said Biden: I’ve found that scores, if not hundreds of people have come up to me and reached out for solace and comfort, something, anything that may help them get through the tragedy their going through. And so it’s just who I am. And I never thought of politics as cold and antiseptic. I’ve always thought it about connecting with people. … Social norms began to change — they’ve shifted, and the boundaries of protecting personal space have been reset — and I get it. I get it. I hear what they’re saying. I understand it. And I’ll be much more mindful.”

HRC Announces Chasten Buttigieg Will Speak at the 22nd Annual HRC Houston Gala

HRC announced that Chasten Buttigieg, husband of presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, will speak at the 2019 HRC Houston Dinner on Saturday, April 6, 2019. Pete Buttigieg is the first openly LGBTQ elected official to run for the Democratic presidential nomination.

“Chasten Buttigieg is a passionate advocate who is inspiring LGBTQ people across the country to live their truths and capturing the hearts of countless Americans,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “As a former teacher, he is a visible and positive role model who is using his influential platform to not only speak out about LGBTQ equality, but also to support and celebrate educators and LGBTQ young people in their schools and classrooms.”

Prior to joining his husband on the campaign trail, Chasten Buttigieg was a humanities and drama teacher at Montessori Academy of Edison Lakes located in Mishawaka, a few miles from South Bend, Indiana. A theater education advocate, Montessori Academy praised him for engaging and inspiring thousands of students throughout the region, including students with autism and learning differences to pursue drama. Chasten Buttigieg’s husband Pete Buttigieg is a presidential candidate for the 2020 election and the first openly LGBTQ elected official to run for the Democratic presidential nomination. A graduate of Harvard University, a Rhodes Scholar and war veteran, Pete is the mayor of South Bend, Indiana.

Set to take place at Marriott Marquis Houston, the 2019 HRC Houston Gala brings together HRC’s most active members and supporters in the greater Houston area to raise crucial funds in the fight for LGBTQ equality. A Melbourne Gay Couple’s Thoughts on Being Supporters of DaddyHunt

We have been paying DaddyHunt customers for about eight months. After an absence of around four years we returned to DH, as the national app we’d previously had been paying through the nose for, had proven an expensive waste of time.

As a committed, longtime male couple seeking a significant younger other, optimistically we became paying “supporters” of DaddyHunt.com, trusting in its advertising that there are young men in our country who are genuinely interested in a variety of older men.

This may indeed be the case. Even so, at the same time, we wondered whether other people had considered a sizeable number of young gay men (in any country) would be grateful to DaddyHunt for legitimising their ambiguous search for security; just as many older men would be grateful for having validated their “right” to re-connect with youth? All this begged the question where does reality end, and fantasy begin? After all, isn’t the idea of a successful younger and older union a patriarchal wet dream, proselytised by Hollywood over the past century?

In our view, if love is to exist between younger and older men, and be meaningful today, there needs to be a connection. In an age of disposable, disingenuous social media, this may be easier said than done. Which is to say the connection is not something facilitated by dashing-off five-word sentences in haste, messaged once a fortnight. And nor is it assured by either man singularly dedicating himself to produce what the media has insisted is a priceless, “marketable body”.

For inter-generational relationships to work, we believe there needs to be recognition of the frailty and shortcomings – along with the strengths – of individuals. In an organised, mercantile gay economy we accept the vitality and idealism associated with youth; just as we accept the romantic notion of financial security, insight and experience of age. We ask whether it is possible to look beyond these clichés, and see the person.

Brunei Must Immediately Rescind Barbaric Anti-LGBTQ Law—And the U.S. Must Act

HRC released the following statement as Brunei implemented a new law imposing barbaric punishments on LGBTQ people, including death by stoning, torture and whipping:

“The eyes of the world are on Brunei today, and we must all speak with one voice against this barbaric law that threatens LGBTQ people with death by stoning and torture,” said HRC Director of Global Partnerships Jean Freedberg. “Given the urgency of this situation, it is increasingly crucial that the United States show moral leadership and join the international community in speaking out against these human rights abuses. We need to seize this moment and demand that Brunei repeal this law without delay.”

The new measures mandate penalties such as floggings and prison for those convicted of engaging in consensual same-sex relations, and the possibility of death by stoning. This makes Brunei one of only a handful of countries in the world that impose the death penalty for consensual same-sex relations.

A small country with half a million people, Brunei is a wealthy state with riches derived from oil production. LGBTQ life in Brunei is severely restricted due to constraints imposed by anti-LGBTQ religious and social views. Working with The Brunei Project and other human rights advocates, HRC has been monitoring LGBTQ human rights issues in the country since 2014.

Over the last several weeks, HRC, international organizations and major celebrities have worked to bring attention to the regime responsible for this law and urged supporters of LGBTQ equality to be conscientious about where they spend their dollars, influence and visibility. HRC is continuing to drive awareness through an #EyesOnBrunei digital campaign.
