J.K. Rowling Has The Perfect Spell To Cast Off A Homophobic Hater

J.K. Rowling Has The Perfect Spell To Cast Off A Homophobic Hater

114839_jkrowlingpotterbook2700x325_principalHarry Potter author and gazillionaire J.K. Rowling doesn’t take to Twitter often, but she had the perfect response to one homophobic hater.

This weekend, one “Frank Fraticelli” posted this nugget of information:

Screen Shot 2014-09-08 at 10.07.49 AM

Showing good form, Rowling hit back with this:

@halfelven55ff I advise you to start following Brian Souter at once. He’s much more your kind of person.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 6, 2014

Brian Souter is Scotland’s richest businessman who also has a history of funding antigay legislation, though he and Rowling are currently fueling opposite sides of the Scottish independence debate. Rowling has taken her fair share of flack for donating a million pounds to the Better Together campaign for Scotland to stay in the United Kingdom. Souter has donated the same amount to Scottish independence.

Rowling’s response was retweeted over thirteen hundred times, and she offered this message of thanks:

I want to thank all the people tweeting me lovely messages. Don’t worry about me – to paraphrase Albus Dumbledore… — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 6, 2014

Following up with:

If you’re waiting for universal popularity, you’ll be on Twitter a VERY long time. xxxx

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 6, 2014

And it looks like a little public shaming from the author goes a long way. Frank’s Twitter account has since been deleted. He’s quoted as posting, “I made a comment about JKR + her homosexual wizard and my twitter account exploded,” he wrote. “EXCUSE ME for NOT accepting that deviant lifestyle lol.”

Actor Michael C. Hall, best known for Dexter and his role as gay funeral director David Fisher in Six Feet Under, will take over for Andrew Rannells in Hedwig and the Angry Inch in October, producers announced today.

Rannells is currently performing in the titular role for a limited eight-week run ending October 12. Rannells originally took over the role from Neil Patrick Harris.

The Hollywood Reporter adds that this marks Hall’s first musical theater role in over a decade – following his Broadway debut as the emcee in Cabaret in 1999 and his role as Billy Flynn in Chicago in 2002.

Steve Grand's Naked ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Video Is Finally Here

Steve Grand's Naked ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Video Is Finally Here
All-American Boy” singer Steve Grand went bucket (and clothing) free for his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video.

“I don’t have an ice bucket and I don’t want to waste fresh water, so I’m jumping into Lake Superior, which is really cold right now,” Grand, deemed country music’s first openly gay male star, says in the clip before jumping into the chilly water.

He’ll also be donating money to ALS as well as two other charities he says he feels passionate about, including a local LGBTQ homeless youth charity

Last month, the country star teased his fans with a steamy photo of himself, apparently taken before the dive, which left little to the imagination.

“I don’t always get naked, but when I do, it’s for a good cause,” Grand wrote on Facebook at the time.

Benedict Cumberbatch Experienced Homophobic Incident In Boarding School

Benedict Cumberbatch Experienced Homophobic Incident In Boarding School

Benedict-in-Screen-Magazine-04-2013-benedict-cumberbatch-33870098-1280-15491I was 18. Two boys who were just discovered in bed together doing something, and it was shocking. I was just finishing an essay in the school dining hall at breakfast, and I looked out the window and heard a commotion, a pair of feet scampering by, and then a horde just charging after shouting, “Wankers! Faggots!” and I thought, “What the fuck is going on?” … [I later told them that] you have to learn acceptance at this school, and you have to go into the world as a better person, and you have to try and embrace the fact that people are different rather than defining yourself by not being like them. Who cares that they’re gay? You have to coexist.”

Benedict Cumberbatch, whose film The Imitation Game about gay hero Alan Turing opens this fall, discussing a homophobic incident from his says at a boarding school with The Daily Beast

Teens React to 1980's Nintendo Entertainment System: WATCH

Teens React to 1980's Nintendo Entertainment System: WATCH

Nes2

If you grew up in the 1980s, there’s a good chance you spent quite a lot of your after-school and summer free time marveling at the 8-bit wonders of the original Nintendo Entertainment System (and blowing into the cartriges to get the damn thing working).

And while the console gave birth to some of the most popular video game series enjoyed by kids today – a lot of the under-20 crowd (Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams included) has never actually seen one of these retro relics in person.

“Wait, that’s the remote controller? I have an iPhone case like this!”

Check it out, AFTER THE JUMP

Neil Patrick Harris Marries David Burtka In Italy

Neil Patrick Harris Marries David Burtka In Italy
Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are married!

Harris and Burtka wed in an intimate ceremony in front of family and friends in Italy on Saturday, Sept. 6, E! News confirmed.

The couple wore Tom Ford tuxedos for the nuptials, which were officiated by “How I Met Your Mother” producer and director Pam Fryman. Elton John performed at the party.

Harris took to Twitter to share the joyous news.

Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband’. pic.twitter.com/R09ibF41rt

— Neil Patrick Harris (@ActuallyNPH) September 8, 2014

Harris and Burtka, who have been together for 10 years, announced their engagement in 2011 after marriage equality passed in the New York State Senate. Harris revealed they had gotten engaged five years before that, but only then decided to make it public.

In 2012, the couple opened up to Out magazine about what makes their relationship work.

“We are, in a way, very codependent,” Burtka said. “He’s my lifeline, in an amazing way. Without him, I can’t breathe. The biggest thing is that he makes me laugh, but he’s also smart. He can do everything. I’m not kidding; I think he’s half robot. He makes me a little more grounded, and I bring out the wild side in him. Don’t get me wrong — we fight. Our fights last five minutes, then we’re over it. And we’re both Gemini — we have a good twin and a bad twin, and the four of us get along really well!”
