Wingnut Bob Marshall Introduces 'Unethical, Abusive And Dangerous' Anti-Gay Legislation in Virginia

6a00d8341c730253ef01b7c73089a3970b-800wiAnti-gay bigot and Virginia Republican delegate Bob Marshall has introduced new legislation that would allow for widespread discrimination against LGBT people in the state, reports LGBTQ Nation.

Marshall is no stranger to anti-gay policy making – in 2006, he co-authored Virginia’s constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.

The new bill HB 1414 states that “a person shall not be required to perform, assist, consent to, or participate in any action or refrain from performing, assisting, consenting to, or participating in any action as a condition of obtaining or renewing a government-issued license, registration, or certificate where such condition would violate the religious or moral convictions of such person with respect to same-sex marriage or homosexual behavior.”

Greg Nevins of Lambda Legal, who fought the state’s ban on same-sex marriage last year, said a bill as broad in scope as HB 1414 would allow a doctor to refuse to prescribe HIV medication to a gay man, or a therapist to refuse counseling to an individual in a same-sex relationship.

He added that it “threatens the mental and physical health of Virginia residents…is unconstitutional…unethical, abusive and dangerous.”

Although the bill could pass both the Republican-majority House and Senate, openly gay delegate Mark Sickles said he believes Democratic governor Terry McAuliffe would veto the measure.

Last year, Marshall called for the impeachment of Attorney General Mark Herring over his refusal to defend the state’s ban on same-sex marriage in court.

'American Horror Story' Star Denis O'Hare Says 'Freak Show' Offers A 'Snapshot' Of Gay Life In The 1950s

'American Horror Story' Star Denis O'Hare Says 'Freak Show' Offers A 'Snapshot' Of Gay Life In The 1950s
American Horror Story: Freak Show” star Denis O’Hare says his role as a well-endowed con man with a penchant for male hustlers on the hit FX series has made him think about the challenges the gay community has faced throughout history.

The 52-year-old actor, who is openly gay in his offscreen life, praised the “subtler” message of the “Freak Show” themes in an interview with The Examiner.

“I think what’s so great about [creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk] and the team of writers is that they’re never content to simply write about one thing. They’re always using the occasion to raise awareness or consciousness,” he said. “And certainly this series this year seems to be about physical abnormalities and what we consider to be a freak, or normal.”

He went on to contrast his character, Stanley, with that of closeted Dell the Strong Man (played Michael Chiklis) as two varying examples of gay life in the 1950s, when the “Freak Show” plot is set.

“…It’s really interesting to see Dell as one expression of that, somebody who’s so deeply closeted that he actually considers hanging himself in the last episode, to someone like Stanley, who just seems to roll with it,” he said. “But he’s hiring hustlers to basically fulfill himself, so that’s certainly not healthy.”

Read the full Examiner interview with O’Hare here.

In an earlier interview with Out magazine, O’Hare pointed to Stanley’s “13-inch penis,” which serves a metaphor for his character’s sexuality.

“It’s actually a burden to Stanley,” he said at the time. “It marks Stanley as abnormal. Being a gay [man] in the 1950s is abnormal. It’s an exploration of what is normal.”

The fourth season of “American Horror Story” has certainly not been lacking in gay appeal. In addition to O’Hare and Chiklis’s characters, out “White Collar” hunk Matt Bomer popped up as a doomed male hustler in one episode. Although his fate was grisly, Bomer thrilled fans by stripping to his underpants in a much-talked-about sequence.

Transgender Teen Shares His Story Through Pancakes

Transgender Teen Shares His Story Through Pancakes

Milo

Every year Milo gets special pancakes from his parents on his birthday, marking a new year in his life. On his tumblr he decided to share pictures of the event from ages 2 to 15, his current age, though his motivation wasn’t to brag about cool parents, at least not entirely. Milo’s purpose for the photo montage was to show that he was born a she.

And he wants to share a message of hope with other trans kids out there. On the tumblr post he says (sic throughout):

some little girls aren’t little girls it just takes us a while to realize it. […] For every kid feeling like I was, please just wait, just wait cause one day you’ll realize just how worth it the wait was. I know everyone says it, but it’s true, it will get better, just please stick around so you can see it come true.

Buzzfeed also secured a short interview with Milo, and when asked about advice for parents of trans kids, he simply said:

Buy them new clothes, respect name changes – parents are the biggest influence no matter what anyone says. Just be positive, please.
